International News Covid-19 .....

But doesn’t this story irk you just a tinge??

By all means meet some additional costs but a flat £10k?... really?

How many laptops, printers and stationery do they need? And how much gas and electric do they think they will use.

Give them their £10k but once this is all done get them to tot up what they really spent and provide receipts, which, if they are truly honest with themselves and are being totally responsible with tax payers money, is unlikely to come close to this sum.

Donate the excess back to these charities in desperate need.

Or, here’s a thought... donate the £10k to local constituency charities anyway and pick up the tab for some additional costs... treat it as a small 10% reduction in salary as par for the course In this crisis.

Why do we continually have to read these sorts of stories in the face of such hardship?
They really should have shared more details of what is included in the 10k. My work have said whatever kit (monitors, etc) you need to work from home, we will get it ordered.

Now most of us took our kit home, but even so, for a company who hates spending money, it was surprising to hear management constantly reinforce the message. Obvs, it won't touch 10k, but my role is different to theirs.

Yeah I wouldn’t disagree, I just wanted to pick up on the idea they were getting 10K a week

And a good article about OUFC ?
Good to see we are leading and being proactive with our process in this period.
And this too ?

Of Course... but your employer will still have to provide receipts and evidence for a tax deduction.

It seems these MP’s s have also had this rule relaxed.

To be fair I can’t see this sitting well with a lot of MP’s and I would expect the charity angle to follow for some.

Oh yeah, whichever country it's in, the tax man will get done over. I take it as read.

If they had said, it includes tech for constituency offices to done from home, etc, it would be at least a more reasoned debate. A flat fee is stupid

Why all the fuss?

Thousands die from Flu, thousands die from knife & gun crime yet the world is slipping into overdrive for a bit of a snuffle*!

And its creating far too much work for me!! ?

*unless you have underlying health issues or are old.
Remember this gem?

Worldwide there have been 1.5m cases and 90,000 deaths recorded. There are probably many more not recorded because in most countries you have to die in a hospital bed to count.

self employed- sole trader .... gotta say it was a stressful, very stressful experience going through all the processes ... quite confusing too:confused:

You can also defer your 2nd tax payment on account due 31st July until 31Jan 2021. It still has to be paid of course, but it might give a you bit a cash flow sanity until things pick up.

A terribly sad number. One thing we are never likely to know is what that number would have been anyway, without the Covid complications.

You sound like every accountants perfect client ?

The monthly average will actually be based on 16/17, 17/18 and 18/19 but in any event good to get them in and sorted.

An interesting graphic from the CDC about flu deaths each year in the US
Influenza-Chart-Infographic-high-res.jpg

To be clear, I am not saying COVID-19 is just the flu
