Away Match Day Thread +++ Peterborough Utd v OUFC - match day thread +++

I don't hold with all this " the board hasn't invested" rubbish. They gave KR money to get the loan players in. Wycombe seem to be doing ok with less I vestment as far as I know. We have a good enough squad to get promoted. It was just a bad day at the office. Credit to the fans today. Very little moaning at the players.

We miss Chris Cadden more than I thought we would, and I already thought him going was a kicker in principle alone. His pace and stamina, and those constant bursting runs down the wing, created overloads and pushed teams back. He also created a lot more chances than most people realised - I saw a stat around Christmas that said apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold he had made more big chances than any other full back in England.

Nothing we can do about it, obviously, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since he departed our form has been pretty terrible. Return to us, sweet prince...

Don’t let Scotchegg hear you say that.

Not really shocked by today - performance or result. I’m more concerned about how we regroup for Tuesday and then another tough game next Sunday. Fans need to get behind the team and stop the negativity bus. It won’t help. COYY

who are we playing next Sunday?

Just here to watch the meltdowns.

On a side note, a reasonable source connected to the Directors informed me that the ambition to get promoted isnt there. Disappointing if true although hopefully taken out of context.

I don't think there was THAT much negativity at the game today. Despite a pretty poor performance the away support stayed umm supportive. Yes, there were a few moans and groans here and there - which was entirely natural, we care and can't just shrug our shoulders when another goal goes in. There are opinions on here that vary from 'everything's all right tra-la-la-la and we will win every other game until the end of the season' to 'my god, we are shocking and will finish the season plummeting towards the abyss and all the players will leave' with all shades in between. But then it's a discussion forum, so I don't really know what you expect? Personally I am fine with people getting behind the team at games and expressing their worries on here!

Imagine my shock!

Browne, Kelly and Holland are better than Fosu and Shandon, only place we really got weaker was right back

This falls on Robinson imo

Are you f-ing serious? You, backed up by several other geniuses on here spout the biggest load of shite on here mate.
We lost, against an extremely good team...we move on we’re playing 9 games in a month and went to extra time on Tuesday against a prem club.

To be honest I don’t even know why I’m bothering responding to this. They say never argue with an idiot...

Has anybody really taken a step back to look at the big picture though? I know I’m going to get abused by certain sections on here but here goes. Late in 2019 we were supposedly going for promotion, able to cover the costs for a promotion push and there was exciting news imminent regarding stadium progress. By the end of January 2020, we’ve sold two players for a sizeable sum, failed to bring players in because we need to be ‘sustainable’ and we’re not ready yet for the championship and people need to stop speculating on stadium progress because there’s nothing to say for the time being. Talk about a club sticking a bloody great pin into the positive balloon within a matter of weeks. I can’t help but feel that something somewhere has shifted behind the scenes and I struggle to believe that it’s good.

How about we played 3 games in a week?

Just got back from a few days away so saw the score at 1-0 when the plane took off, and saw 4-0 to ten men when it landed.

Not seen the performance, but the comments don't sound like a close game with 4 well taken but rare chances...

I think there is strong evidence now that we are in a propper choke. Significant losses to two promotion rivals has meant mid table is looking more likely. This time next week I think we'll be in a better position to confirm...still a chance to turn it around, but it simply HAS to start tuesday. Against the team the picked us apart back in September (? Ish)...4-2.

If we can overcome a big physical pressing side like Burton, I'll feel more assured, especially if followed by a victory against Sunderland, but it's a big ask...

:ROFLMAO: compared to your monotone phone contributions??
Ain’t been on for a while @Mellowyellow, the difference is if we’re s**t I will say so obviously o won’t use that term and I will say we’re god/great when we are, but above all I will be truthful. There are many who phone or even post on here when we’ve won let’s say 1-0 and even been absolutely awful but there will be those who will say that to was a Stella performance, thats the difference, oh and I didn’t call today as “ I wasn’t there Jerome “

I have to take issue with the Brannagan point, the guy is passionate about us and gives 100% every game. Clearly he’s not himself but we can’t knock him for a loss of form when he’s been so consistent.

Agree.

It’s ludicrous to suggest his “head has been turned” when with three months to go there is no concrete offer of a club to go to. It’s not as if there was a queue of clubs lining up for an auction of our better players e.g. Baptiste...and of our recently sold midfielders, only Lundstram has really kicked on and made himself indispensable to his new club.

The only way for Brannagan to secure a move is to play better and reflect a superior attitude, not act the truculent teen. I’m sure he just had an off-day today.

A tough watch today, we were fine for the first 15 minutes and it looked like it was going to be a very entertaining even game that could go either way, a little over an hour later it was our biggest defeat of the season in what was (on paper) probably our strongest starting line up we have had for months...
The difference was obviously the front 3 of Peterborough compared to our Matty Taylor being isolated....
The possession stats were on our side however it’s what you do with the possession that counts...
No excuses today and one we have to get over quickly before our season peters out and we are living in hope rather than having a real chance of success 4 or 5 weeks ago...
February will sort things out for better or for worse...

That’s the problem it’s the system 4 2 3 1 or later in today’s performance 4 1 4 1. Why can’t KR adopt a 4 3 3 so Taylor who obviously wasn’t ready would have had company.

Yes have you heard him on the radio? There’s no way he’d not bother, he’s genuinely passionate and keen, or otherwise a great actor.

Tuesday will also be a tough game

Also, I don't see who was wanting to buy him in January? Sure there were clubs interested, but he was coming back from injury so was never likely to be a serious target for clubs looking for a talented, fit in-form addition. And if he phones it in for the rest of the season (which he's not been doing so far) that'll be a big red flag for Championship clubs looking at him and they'd simply move on to other talented targets in League One.
