Away Match Day Thread +++ Peterborough Utd v OUFC - match day thread +++

Good post Bazzer. The stadium issue is massive
And until we own it I fear that we are not going to progress with what happened in the January transfer window,’yes we got theee we n on loan and bought one for the future but the lack the of attracting a RB and another striker which we needed with the money we’ve earned on top of what was projected at the start of the sales son is frustrating. I’m worried come the end for the season and with current form with a possible mid table finish, will we keep any company f our top players and will we be able to bring in quality to compete next season.
I do wonder if Mark Ashton had still been here he would have got us much better deals for the sale for Fos and Bap to reinvest?

At least we have a goal keeper that thinks the top two are miles off and that we should target play offs.

Wasn't there so can't comment on the performance but obviously it looks pretty awful, and to concede an additional 2 when they've only got 10 men on the field is extremely poor. Peterborough though are the form team in the league and have incredible firepower in attack - they've now hit 4 past Wycombe, Ipswich (away) and us in the last few weeks. All sides chasing playoffs/promotion.

The ironic thing? Despite them winning their last 5 league games, we'd go above them if we were to win our games in hand. I know it's hard to see us winning multiple games in a row with our current form, but that's the lie of the land.

My main concern is the lack of fitness and knocks so many are carrying. Looking on paper at our midfield and we have a long list of really good players and I'm sure many of us would give different combinations as to who would comprise our best midfield such is the talent we have. However only 2 of those, Gorrin and Sykes, are actually match fit. And one of those played 120 minutes on Tues. Brannagan clearly isn't right. Henry is still finding his way back and not influencing games in the way he does when he's on song. Kelly and Thorne are still only fit enough for cameos. Forde coming from a nasty injury and Woodburn is still probably a month away before being ready for action. Hanson is probably a more viable option but then a midfield with him and Gorrin in it would be very defensive and I don't see much creativity there. Added to that, Taylor isn't fully fit either and has struggled for a little while now and doesn't really look like scoring at the mo.

One man’s excuses are another’s mitigating circumstances. You could see today coming a mile off. Best players still getting back to full fitness and a squad that played two high intensity hours four days ago against the form team of the division. One thing about cup games is that it gives an opportunity to play out of form players and those returning from injury into a bit of form. We don’t have any more of them now, and we can’t afford to carry any passengers, which it sounds like we were doing today. The manner of the defeat is extremely disappointing though - conceding two against ten men, the second in stoppage time, is pretty poor.

Currently stuck at saltzburg airport. Can anyone summarise what Robbo and Eastwood said, please?

I don’t think selling Fosu and Baptiste had anything to do with the result today. Maybe a new right back would have helped, but don’t think that’s the be all and end all.

The team selection was all wrong though, anyone could have told you Brannigan wasn’t going to play well, he must have been knackered. Robinson has to take a big share of the blame, and I hope he does better on Tuesday.

Dan Agyei must be wondering what he has to do, he comes on and plays well, then doesn’t get a chance in a game when a load of players are knackered and he’s fresh. I don’t care if he’s absolutely rubbish in training, he needs more of a chance.

Some fans are very good at spending other people’s money and saying what the board should be doing.
Losing almost 3 million a year aren’t we. As someone said earlier we are playing the long game.
Ok, so dont make noises about ‘going for it‘ and promotion to the championship. Be honest and say we’re strapped for cash and aiming for consolidation in league one for the time being and avoid pissing the fanbase off when we exceed our current budget and finish 12th

Spot on @HampshireYellow

We chucked the towel in in the last 10. Some nightmare defending. Very poor performance. And I put a lot of it down to extra time on Tuesday.

Peterborough not great but energetic and disciplined at back.

This was a game made for Agyei and very disappointing that he didn’t make an appearance .

Toney the difference, he’s the best striker in the division by far.
Gorrin and Branagan both had mares and they’ve had great seasons. Hope this was all a one off.

Football, bloody hell...

Have they ever said they were going for it. Championship football was the long term aim I thought.

majority of yf posters are OUFC supporters.... losing hurts, losing 0-4 away to ten men promotion rivals hurts a lot

sounding off/ letting off steam ( on a football forum) directly after a crap result doesnt mean anyone supports the team any less, its unloading sheer bloody frustration

We'll go and beat Burton tues & all will be better then

Do you know what resilience means? If you support a club you have to be able to deal with defeats without throwing your toys out of the pram and slagging off a man who was your hero on Tuesday.
You’re actually talking nonsense. 4-0 against 10 men Peterborough is shocking. Your comment about resilience doesn’t even have any relevance

I think Tiger has ‘talked the talk‘ on several occasions this season. Until recently I had belief that it was hoped for, even if it was a bit ahead of schedule. My opinion has changed in the last fortnight however.

Edit. I will reiterate that I’m feeling a tad flat after todays mauling. A good win at Burton on Tuesday will soon change my mood! ?
