General Jan transfer window

Good luck to both lads and thanks for all they have done for us. You can't stand in the way of progress and to the outside looking in, we are a club that will play young players and not stand in their way if the money on a deal is right. Sad to see them go, but we move on and off they go with out best wishes.

I'd be more gutted if Dickie and Brannagan left - both bigger players for the team in the background. The fact we've got a lot more for Baptiste a year after he was supposed to go is just a fantastic deal.

The only negative is how shizit the timing is for us a club. Well and truly fecked over. However, we move on and look forward to going up.

Ok, I’ll take a deep breath after reading decent arguments both for and against tonight’s developments.

For those still in the positive camp: Do we still have enough in the squad to push for, at least, the play offs? If we dont bring in any players tomorrow have we still had a good transfer window, in keeping with the rhetoric coming out of the club in December?

Not looking for arguments, these are genuine questions.

I get that we’re a selling club but I would hope the model would include the facility to plough a percentage of the incomings into reinvesting and replenishing the squad. I think it was the floundering tonight by KR and NM when asked if any of the money would be spent on bringing in replacements. The excuse of there not being enough time doesnt really wash with me. With all the incoming money from the cup runs, would it not have been better to tell the players that theyre staying u til the summer? See where we are then and we’ll let you go if we’re still in league one but lets at least give it a damn good go for another four months at least? I also wonder how the likes of Brannigan and Dickie feel tonight. Do they still feel that they are at a club with genuine ambition to go for promotion?

In answer to your questions.

Yes I do feel we aren't much different to where we were in terms of the squad and going for promotion. We could still do with a right back and an attacking player (for depth) with Fosu going, although it could also give a chance for one of young, rated Academy players like Tyler Goodrham or Kyran Lofthouse to push for a chance. Remember this is how Shandon Baptiste took his chance after all and had only played for a team in the same league as Oxford City prior to taking his 1st team chance. If the players wanted to take the chance and the bid meets our valuation, would you want a potentially unhappy player disrupting the squad?

On the what Brannagan/Dickie think; I'm sure they are both well aware of the basis Oxford operate on and how football works, that is probably part of how the club was sold to them, almost certainly Brannagan. They have both been at the club long enough to understand how the club operates with players coming in and going every window in a similar way.

Gavin Whyte, Shandon Baptiste and Tariq Fosu have sold for collectively around £7m having cost us around £300k in total.

It's only a few weeks ago that some were calling for Fosu to be dropped with him going off the boil, and as fantastic as Baptiste is, we have an embarrassment of riches in that position.

As Robinson says, no one will be happy with them leaving, especially so late in the window but let's see where we are in May before condemning everyone involved with the club.
So what if we finish mid-table come May? The lovers still gonna love, the haters still gonna hate.... ?

I said the same thing to a friend earlier. And... When was the last time we sold players in 6 months for that money (never) and have players who can step into the team and basically not miss a beat (never).

The emotions are high but OUFC did a lot for its future today. We just to keep believing in it.

Did we get 4 million for whyte then?

But the only problem Holland won’t be here next season

Considering we only signed Fosu this last summer with the recruitment set up we still have (but some personnel changed iirc or that may have been before Fosu) what makes you think we won't sign a decent (at least) player in the summer? We managed to sign Holland on loan after all.

How many duff ones have we got in the squad currently that have signed under KR, or before KR even that are still in the squad?*

*I appreciate this is an open goal for those who don't like Mackie.

I wouldn't mind so much losing Baptiste, if it's for £4m+ (remains up in the air, if we trust what they're saying is true) but surely they should have planned for Fosu knowing his release clause was only 750k.

This has been common knowledge for a long long time, and they say we have no time to bring in replacements? Or anyone?! Surely there should be a long list of potential targets to go out and at least test the waters with, with the money we've just been guaranteed.

The majority of deals are completed on deadline day so why can't we get out there and save this promotion bid?

Absolutley, another copout from the club. Niall whoever sat there praising our recruitment team. If they are really any good why is it targets aren't ready, as potentially any of our top players could have left.
Funny really, we go from the diatribe of 5 full backs lined up, to the cringe worthy spin of this evening.

H
I’m really not sure what the panic is. Scotchegg has already assured us that:

1. It’s very unlikely any important players will leave this window
2. O’Donnell is joining us imminently

I think you all need to settle down.

factoring in add on’s, they were sold for a lot less and the add on’s might never happen.

Hmmm.

Pissed off by how this was managed by the club.

Baptiste has been so great to watch this season and surely would have gone for an absolute wedge in the summer? That said, we do have plenty of support coming back into fitness and who knows what our sell-on is (we fkn better have one).

Not overly impressed by Fosu so not bothered there.

Sad to have to sell our few top assets but that's the model and better players will be interested in us in the summer if we can demonstrate that we are a good platform.

I say it a lot because I quite admire them but Brentford is what we should and could be aiming to be. This is the way to do it.

Season not over.

Sadly I cant argue with this as things stand. Tomorrow is a pivotal day. If we dont sign any players then its hard to deny that things have changed dramatically from the statements made at the start of the window. If we cant make permanent signings tomorrow with our much vaunted recruitment team then why not? I cant imagine the bbc will putting a statement up on its sports website tomorrow : “There were no signings today - deadline day - as it was too late in the window”

No, we got upwards of £2.5m, £750k for Fosu, and around £4m for Baptiste.

Seeing as Karl Robinson himself quoted the Whyte sale at £2m in the phone in earlier it is odd that you claim higher. The actual cash up front price and the potential return are not necessarily the same.
