League Cup Quarter final draw

Luckily there are no guarantees in football that the bigger clubs always beat the smaller clubs so there is hope.

But......

Man U or Liverpool away guarantees 10x more gate money (0-10% chance of winning)
Man C, Everton, Villa or Leicester away prob = 5x more gate money with i'd say same 0-10% chance v City or Leicester, 0-30% chance v Everton or Villa
Colchester away, less gate money but 50%+ chance of winning

Liverpool, Man U, Leicester at home would be better than City, but prob still only 0-10% chance of winning
Everton or Villa at home, I'd say 0-40% chance of winning
Colchester at home, 60-70% chance of winning

So whilst City at home isn't a 's**t' draw, if all the possible ties were ranked on a degree of shitness then it would be the shitest!

My take Fwiw.

In last 8 of a major cup. Could of got CU but didn't and if we had - on the night we could've struggled and god forbid lost and how would we assesss ourselves then. Then again I'm not quite silly enough yet to say that if we did get CU at home we could have also been looking at going through to the semis.

Alternatively, I believe if we had drawn say Norwich City at home in the QF (I know they are not in it) we'd perhaps on a cold kassam night in December given them a very decent game and possibly beaten them and look what they (NC) actually did to MC themselves recently. I don't for one minute believe in miracles but for one second....

Another take and this is the one I'm chewing on is we are further in a cup competition than those mere fledglings down the A420 and the M4 and I can tell you that both these aforementioned little sides would love this fixture themselves.

Don't dismiss it.

Coyy's.

Also let’s not forget West Ham had pretty much there 1st team out in the end when we beat them 4-0 this season so why can’t we beat city reserve team after all we’re OUFC we’re playing at home and there ent no better team on the planet than us

COYY

Saying it’s not the draw we wanted isn’t dismissing it, it’s just a fact. A big part of it stems from it’s exactly the same combo as last season so the novelty factor isn’t there. Man Utd or Liverpool at home would have had the same revenue, be more interesting/novel and perhaps slightly more winnable. Saying that isn’t not recognising that it’s great to be in the QFs, it’s just making a point.

I think this will be interesting in terms of offering a comparison between this year's team and last year's, but not a huge lot more than that. For all the atmosphere and build-up to last year, the actual game was pretty demoralising - we literally barely touched the ball in their half. Hopefully this year, we can make a bit more of a fist of it, and see what the likes of CB, Baptiste and Fosu can do against world class opposition. I agree with a previous poster that Long and Baptiste seemed to grow from the experience of playing them last year, so hopefully the fixture will galvanise others.

It is frustrating, though, as really any other team I could have seen us with an outside chance of beating. MUTD drew at home to Rochdale in a previous round, didn't they? Everton are a circus atm, and Klopp doesnt take this competition seriously. Assuming our run continues, confidence would have been sky high, and a cup fixture under the lights could have seen another Swansea or West Ham moment for us. City were just ruthlessly professional last year, and we really didn't get a sniff. Regardless of how much you know the other team has cost etc, to be given that much of a run around by individuals in the same profession as you must be disheartening.

I really can’t understand the disappointment from some on here. If you get to the later stages of major cup competitions, then you have to expect us to come up against the big guns. They are the best, and take this cup very seriously. If you offered me 5th in the league in November, and a date with Man City in Decembers EFL Cup Quarter Finals id of snapped ya hand off. I don’t know about you lot, but I could quite happily get used to playing City on a regular basis. Brilliant times to be an Oxford United fan.
People are disappointed because
1)they would have like to have played a different team to last season.
2) would liked to have had an away day to a premier league side (or even Colchester)
3) obviously Colchester home then away as it’s more winnable.

I for one would have loved an away day to pretty much any of the premier league clubs as unfortunately wasn’t in the position to go to these ground back in the good old days.

Don't agree, if we play like we can and we've improved so much from last season we have a sniff. Why? We are at home.

I also think the OUFC fan base is very savvy and were thinking an away draw would be good for the revenue and January transfer coffers. However there must be some television monies if only for highlights and another sell out will be a real windfall regardless.

I think I read the ticket split is 45%/45%

It won't be the Liverpool game on TV as they are playing in the World club championship (or whatever it's called) that week.

All the sponsors should cop up some more sponsorship monies for the extra exposure. Hall/Singha on the front page of the BBC website today again I note. Thats international exposure.

That's the reason companies take the gamble with sponsorship. We can't expect Singha to stump up more money because their gamble has come off. However, it does mean that we may get a much better deal next time if we have continued positive exposure.

I think that they are trying to wind us up.

Kevin De Bruyne has just been quoted "Ever since I was a small boy, its always been my dream to play in front of a garden fence".

They may live to regret that.

Guy sitting next to me Tues was wearing a U's/Sunderland scarf, I had to say to him why not buy a real OUFC scarf?
People coming to the game for the first time will maybe walk past 2 or 3 people selling half and half scarves, but may not get round to the club shop or know that you can go in the quadrangle bar. We need to have a greater presence with selling OUR merchandise to give these fans the option.

Don't forget Kevin, the Fence End is about to become the greatest (wooden) structure in world football, as a follow poster used to say!

Seriously, perhaps the club should try to get that application in for the temporary fourth stand, it's been talked about enough times?

We have certainly done that in years gone past so I think it very reasonable. I'm a season ticket holder and will pay EXTRA to see this game so why not the sponsors. I am not complaining and nor should they. Also for the advertising hoardings in stadium. (Assuming we get some of that income).
