Away Match Day Thread +++ 02/02/2019 Burton Albion v OUFC match day thread +++

Sometimes it's more difficult playing against 10 men than 11. Changes the complexion of the game.

Anyone else think they should change the rules so that when there's a last man foul like the one today the fouled team gets the option of red card or a penalty? Sinclair was practically in the box when he was deliberately hauled back, playing against 10 men doesn't gift you back the scoring opportunity you had created, especially when that 10 are just going to sit behind the ball for the rest of the game

Sorry, pitiful excuse that coco would come out with. Is the attitude other sides would take?
Don't forget the nugget he came out with about the pitch being narrow.
Simply Burton knew, as other sides have done, we have one 2d style of football that kr has us playing. Even with 10 men they stifled us superbly.
Play crab football along the back, then look for Graham or Whyte down the flanks. kr has no plan B
Things will follow the same pattern, with the odd win thrown in until we are relegated, or until someone else is brought in with fresh ideas, doing away with the stale way kr has us playing. His interviews are the same thing repeated week after week.
We had xxxx possession, we had xxxx chances, we had xxxx corners, it all counts for nothing unless you score.
Yep we had corners, but how many actually got past the first man.
Yep we had the possession, passing the ball fruitlessly between the back 4.
Jonte talked a good game, and seems hungry to play. Why not put him on the bench next week?
Sinclair had a good first half, but was neutralised when Mackie came on, and the team reverted to type.
The shots we did have on target would have got points at Twickenham, but ffs hit the target.
Sunderland next week, god help us, unless the team that played against Pompey turn up.

I take it from the fact that you’re quoting a post I made a few hours ago you’re reading through the posts you missed (and as a result that you were at the match, in which case fair play to you). Genuine question, what do you make of my later observation that our form since early October has been that of a side that would have finished 8th last year? Too little too late (which, again, would be fair)?

We were much the better side today. All game.

But hitting the back of the net is what it’s all about. Our front play was ultimately blunt.

I reckon we will beat Sunderland though. They are no great shakes .

You really are showing yourself up with comments like this. Chill out and get behind the team instead of constantly moaning and at least say something constructive. 6 points out of the last 4 games is not a bad return considering who we’ve played. I’ll wager with you now that we won’t go down and that KR will be here at the end of the season.

But its not about that, its about the season as a whole. We've been in the relegation zone almost all season. So lets not give our opinion and pretend all is well in planet zog, singing lalalalala….
You can wager what you like, but the reality:
  • was seen by the 900 or so fans that were there today
  • is the joke that is the communication from the club
  • is the circus that is the scouting/recruitment set up at the club
  • is a manager, who somehow has so much influence/power at the club that we may get relegated, and he will still spout the same old rubbish

Well that was a frustrating watch, wasn't it!

I think more and more that we are better at counter-attacking. When a team puts everyone behind the ball, we really don't have any idea how to break them down. For all the possession we had, did anyone have any confidence we would score?

Sinclair had a bit of a poor start (the mis-kick was quite funny though - lots of "so that's what four million quid gets you!" remarks in the stands :) ), and pairing him with Mackie didn't work at all. I'm actually a fan of having two strikers on the pitch, but since they could only have had one training session together and the team is set up to have a one up front, it looked as if they were all over the shop positionally. I thought Dickie had a good game - I know he put a couple into the stands, but I would much rather he did that than fart about with it - his tackling and heading was spot on.

We looked fairly decent to begin with, but then our play got slower and slower (I thought making the 9 opposition outfield players expend a bit more energy might have helped us) and the passing more and more conservative. Sideways, sideways, sideways, hoof. It wasn't very pretty - and was pretty easy for Burton to deal with. We are missing a creative spark - James Henry was at the heart of many of the better things we did, but more players need to take responsibility and not just pass the ball sideways to hope someone else will do it for them.

So, frustrating (although of course I did have the bonus of being outside RadOx range so didn't have to suffer the post match drivel afterwards) - but on the bright side it's another point. Not enough, but a bit better than nothing. An opportunity missed (again).

But we didn’t play badly ‘ Mellow’. I can only suspect you would have spontaneously combusted if we’d lost.

The next three games Sunderland, Peterborough and Accrington I hope I’m wrong but i think 9 points dropped

Peterborough are f*****g it up at the mo and Accy would be below us if they hadn’t started so well so feeling positive of 6/7 Pts tbh

And we have a week to 'gel', master.

They're close to meltdown and we have a week to work out how to put the mackem to the sword.

COYY!

Agree re calling people Swindon fans, but, don’t know if you saw them, the posts today were another level of relentless unhelpful negativity. As I pointed out above too, our points per game over the last 4 months has been 1.44, the rate of a side pushing for the playoffs, so, while that start was inexcusably terrible, results since then really haven’t been that bad.

In terms of a relation fight, I would much rather we be in the position we are this year, with the bad start and subsequent improvement, than last year, with the good start and then the terrifying and seemingly unstoppable slip towards the bottom 4.

Ttg, do you have stats for Accy as they had a brilliant start but are now only 4 pts above us!

My Saturday night is so boring, that I do!

In the equivalent period since the Southend game (6 October) Accy have picked up 16 points in 16 games. At that PPG, extrapolated over the course of a season, that would have put them 22nd last year.

I know which team I’d rather be at this stage.

Before today’s games I said to a mate that I thought Wimbledon & Rochdale would go down with 2 more from about 10 teams and I thought Rovers & Accy would be the other two. Good win for Rovers today tho.

Agree with most of your comments except Dickie... I think he is the weak link in defence, back pass to Eastwood that nearly proved costly. Headers ok, but lacks the pass to start things off and prefers to always play sideways. He has plenty of headers in the box, but rarely scores. So not his best game for me.

Dave? its mark....!!

anyway i am going for 0-0 22 shots 7 on target no goals...no real change then!!!!...2 strikers signed..one not in the squad, sykes, keshi, carruthers all on bench...not better than what we have then?..the idea was to strengthen the team...we have made the bench stronger...or have we..simply we are not good enough..bottom 4 pretty much all season...cant string 2 wins together...cant win away against average at best opposition. Blame KR ? possibly...blame the dis organisation at board level? possibly....Blame tiger?...absolutely definitely cast iron, the man who did sweet FA at Reading..is here now...dont believe a word he says...Reading fans warned us at the start...and here we are, facing a mammoth task in 17 games or so left..we are probably going to need to win 7 of those,a few draws too...just dont see how or where thats going to happen, happily sailing up s**t creek and tiger had a paddle we could have borrowed...and the creek has a few crocs biting the bottom of the boat..the paddle of Hylton might have plugged the holes this season..yes of course he was available...if bloody neymar has a price so did Hylton...instead we signed plan...c and j.....Start looking at the trips next season..and whilst that beautifully named tiger is at the helm..its another journey we will be on......
