Local News Traffic Filters in Oxford

'News the MSM dare not talk about'? Golly. So GB News is a little amateur operation in someone's shed, rather than MSM?
Not at all, I believe they exposed Sir Kiers possible Covid lockdown rule breaks before the BBC. Sky etc... but spoke about that as much as BJ's.

They also questioned lockdowns and Covid vaccines passports, which seem to be gaining interest. Also the Channel crossings months before it become headline news.

I still watch BBC News too, but do not criticise those who exclusively watch that channel.

Fellow OUFC fan and County Councillor who has led the calls for the new stadium is now leading calls to SCRAP the East Oxford and Cowley LTN's. There is vote on 7th Nov

Traffic around Cowley is awful nowadays. Please, contact the below asking them to vote to REMOVE the divisive LTN's, which have increased traffic and pollution around the area:

More clarity on the exemptions are needed:

How can you prove you are an unpaid carer
What is classed as a car being used for small goods? - courier?

IMO anyone living in Oxford should get unrestricted movement in and around the City!
People don't have unrestricted access to the city now

genuine question, how would you define living in Oxford?
- within the ring-road or within the boundaries of Oxford City Council, or slightly extended to encompass areas that are in effect joined to City Council Boundaries ( such as Botley , for instance) ?

The consultation on turning off street lights is now live too:

When i say un-restrictive, i mean be able to travel through bus gates to travel locally.
I don't think there's an easy answer, there's no room for cars in Oxford and no ability to extend roads due to the rivers and old buildings. But people working need to be able to access the centre and the proposed congestion charge does feel like they're trolling us.

There have been cars in Oxford for years, look at old video footage, I grew up in Oxford and it was no more a problem than where I live now or other areas of the country. Again its outsiders coming in, getting themselves elected and causing s**t.

Travel through the congestion gates will cost £5, go to town on the bus and back costs £6. I'm not sure why car owners are complaining

The major issue in the East Oxford route into the Centre is Magdalen College School. As soon as the school is closed (often before all other school) the Cowley Road has hardly any queue. Maybe more investment in School busses is needed.

It's going to push even more traffic onto the Cowley/Oxford road.
Gant claimed on the radio the other day that it was possible to get around the city without going through the gates.
You can get IN to the city from the A roads. But you wont be able to travel from Cowley Road, over The Plain, to get to Summertown for example. You would need to go via the Ring Road....

I live in Risinghurst, so outside the ring road , but within the city limits, this will increase the traffic, journeys will be longer, I fortunately am retired now, I did have a workplace parking place , , what happens then if by travelling to work you pass through 2 of these bus gates, is that then £10 ?, and is the levy on workplace parking still going forward?

If anything from council that states consultations are needed they will go straight to be implement as normal as Gant and his Liberal lot are law to themselves they have always dispised cars?. The news on TV as usual hand picked people and Gant with his claptrap coming out of his mouth.
The reporter should of done some homework and asked as you don't live here not from area how are you going to know about issues if you don't sit in them and see that it's the 20mph zones. Ltn's , too many buses on certain routes that block rds as council took away bus stop laybys now they stop traffic.
Bike lanes restricted width of rd's hard overtake, mother earth and her wide long vehicle bike that never look.
Even Ring Road now restricted to 50mph!.
Give this lot time they will follow London with conjestion charge on every road inside Ring Road...

Oxford is for the University. Anything else doesn’t matter. For visiting relatives it is a joke. What I do notice though is there are a lot fewer cars than ever before because it’s a no-go area for so many people. Botley Road closure has changed so many lives as far as getting around is concerned. It’s now the norm.

f*****g cafes taking up road space and pedestrians and cyclists just doing whatever the f**k they please. You can now cycle up what were once one way streets because nobody with any sanity would drive into Oxford.

Only need to put 20mph limit on the Woodstock Road for the full set.

So many more cars now though, can't compare it.

I only left Oxford 7 years ago.

I got the train back to meet up with mates on Saturday though, was a bit early, so had a bit of time for a walk around the city centre, the state of it was a bit of a shock as I don't look around often, loads of shops shut, street vendors selling tat, add that to the state of the Botley Road works which I had a good view of from the train and I don't think I would trust the people who have overseen all this since I left to manage a city and make decisions.

Used to miss Oxford, but after that I think that's gone, lots of better places to live that actually care about locals around the country, its turning into a very divided place thats a bit of a dive, scandalous that it has been allowed to get like this.

I volunteer in the city once a week ( at least) and without being able to drive there I couldn’t get there in time with work commitments etc.
if this charge is introduced I will have to stop volunteering.

It's hard to disagree too much with this, I've been to Cambridge a couple of times in the last couple of years and it's a similar place with similar challenges and no room for cars etc but it is actually nice in the centre, with lots of appealing small shops.

What I find is that they ask the people wealthy enough to live in the city if they want this and as they can all walk or cycle they don’t care.
The people that this will affect, as per, will be those that cannot afford it.

The council seem to be actively squeezing the smaller non food and beverage retailers out of the city. Ask any retailer in the Covered Market.
They want it to be a food hub and it’s the only independent retail sector of the city.
