Other European European Super League

This is so obvious.

It'll be "free to watch" for a year or two. Then when the morons are hooked on it, they'll start charging a subscription fee which will increase every couple of years, so they just get what they want and drag the muppet Sky fans along with them. It's just the Netflix/Spotify/Amazon model all over again.

Almost worse than the greedy owners will be the fans who pay to attend. Every one of them will be a traitor to their club and to the entire system.

When this actually happens it will be such a disgrace that the heads of those involved should literally roll.

(For account retention purposes the above sentence is just a joke...)

This is basically big business, profits and free market capitalism v big business, profits and free market capitalism. I wonder who will win!

Showing his anti euro stance. Could he stop it? Could he stop English clubs participating? I am totally against the ESL but c’mon Kier you’ve got no chance it’s a voting gimmick
I am not sure why a law couldn't be introduced to stop it or make it far more difficult?
The big clubs seem to want to join a European Super League AND stay in the PL ( which will, of course, be less competitive). Maybe allow the other clubs to kick them out if they do join the ESL?

They won’t get time to play in both leagues and their squad sizes would have to increase and clubs in the lower leagues will suffer financially

Wigan, Birmingham and Swansea have won a trophy in the years since Spurs last won one. Fantastic stadium, empty trophy cabinet.
We’ve also won a major trophy more recently than Newcastle. Something I like to point out when you get one of their fans telling you how massive they are.

Well if you don't count 1 fa cup and 2 league cups I suppose they have.

I suggest it is far from dead, just this iteration was unsuccessful.

The current format of the (mostly not) champions league and the 2 other competitions is the precursor.

It’s just a matter of time and media management.
Bring it on, hopefully all the big clubs will disappear on to some channel I’ve never heard of.

Exactly. Those massive clubs are killing football. Arrogant wankers, thinking their obscene wealth allows them to trample on all the "smaller" clubs.
Let them all sod off to their own "Elite" super league, for the super rich to enjoy, then sit back and watch them all eat each other and themselves alive!

And then reinvent the football pyramid, with strict financial regulations around wages, transfer fees, and overall club ownership, to make it a more level playing field and less of a money driven cesspit, and when the "big boys" come back with their tails between there legs, asking to be let back in. tell em to f**k off! :giggle:

European super league sounds a bit low-ambition in today's climate anyway.

Give it a few years, we'll have Man U playing Inter Miami and Wrexham in the Trump baller league trophy in Riyadh.

Will this be before or after Infantino gives Trump another Peace Award for ending the War between Christmas Island and Easter Island?

They already have. I used to watch the Champions League on ITV, when it coincided with nothing else on the telly and an English or Italian team being in the latter stages. No idea what it's broadcast on now.

I vaguely know they have an actual league in it now as opposed to a group stage, but they don't actually all play each other? God knows. Lost interest far too long ago.

Yes me too - I sometimes watch the BBC highlights show and was surprised to see there are about six English teams in the Champions league. It does appear to be some sort of league! But moving into a cup format for the later stages.
