Graham Thorpe was the knobhead who hit the winning runs. He was the KP character of that England side. Talented but objectionable.

He didn't hit the winning runs, and Alex Tudor himself was clear that they had to get the runs as quickly as possible. Plus Steven Fleming the NZ captain didn't want him to get a century so set his field so that Thorpe scored all the runs. There was never any bad feeling between the two of them.

Didn’t realise some didn’t like Thorpe generally either.

Blimey! Leach dropped on 92 .... second time hes been dropped this innings , last time was 20 runs ago... nervy nineties for him at the moment

Oh dear. All going Pete Tong now. Bairstow a pair!! And someone wants him to open in tests against Starc etc!!

approaching test matches like a limited overs match is never, ever a good idea.... absolutely no need to scramble for a quick single in test match cricket.... bad communication between Denly n Root at the very least... 2nd England collapse underway with Bairstow gone lbw ...oh dear

Having listened to Jim Maxwell talk on TMS, the Aussies sound as much of a shambles as England are at the moment!

If England can last long enough to set Ireland a target of over 190 to chase, England bowlers should be capable of doing the job.... thing is, how long will England's domino like batsmen manage to last?

Sorry but I've had enough of Mo now. Looks to be out of his depth in all forms of international cricket. We would carry him if he faced the Aussies.

we know he can bat ... trouble is under pressure he goes cheaply time n time again ... need Woakes to compliment Root.... except Root has gone for 31 ... oh dear!

Watch me be proven wrong, but I think England already have enough runs on the board to win this.

There's a ton of pressure chasing a total in the 4th innings of a Test match. Looking to win your first ever Test match, against your neighbours, at the home of cricket, that pressure ratchets up a few notches. And the England attack is decent. I fancy us to roll Ireland over cheaply.

That doesn't change the fact that this has been a woeful Test match for the England batsmen, and in fact a woeful past 18 months for the England batsmen. I'm dreading watching England bat in the Ashes against this Aussie pace attack.

Curran gone for 37 , going for a limited overs type shot .... Ireland reviewing a Broad 'lbw' not given on field ...not out... England296-9 ... leading by 173 .... ideally need another 17 or more , unlikely though it is

190 would imo be uncatchable ...if our bowlers are all on form the current chase may be a bit too much, but ....

Broad batting like his dad used to... that 6 takes England to 300, and sets the chase at 181.... still 1 wicket in hand too, still think 190 (+)to chase should be too much for Ireland
