The only saving grace is that the Australian top-order are an equal shower of basketcases, and are even talking about recalling chief waste-of-space Mitchell Marsh.

I think it largely comes down to if Smith's technique to the short ball can be further exposed. The rest is pretty equal on both sides

shuffle the top order pack any which way but the results will be similar, until the England top order get into the mind set of test match batting , instead of limited overs cricket batting IMO

The way the top 4 have been batting, being down at 4 won’t feel a lot different for Roy anyway, he’ll only have time for a quick cup of tea before he’s in the middle. I loved Denly’s optimism, he said that Roy dropping down to 4 enables him to play his usual game as he’ll be facing the old ball. Sorry to sound so pessimistic but it’s about time the top 4 started to earn their corn rather than dancing around the order like they’re playing some sort of game of musical chairs.

England’s record is pretty good at Old Trafford but I’m a bit worried in seeing Labuschagne and Smith both in the same side.
