New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

A painful post to write but here goes.

We've all seen on campaign literature locally that the Greens on many occasions have done deals with the local Lib Dem party i.e not contesting seats against each other and encouraging the electorate to vote for each other to strategically hurt the Conservatives.

Favours are now owed as a result of this and it appears that the Greens are asking the local Lib Dems not to proceed any further and they have seemingly agreed. The Lib Dems locally are no longer a viable independent party able to think for themselves.

Our remaining slim hope is that CDC somehow grant planning permission which forces the hand of OCC but this is unlikely with the Lib Dems and Green likely to become the two biggest parties in CDC after the local elections in May.

As a result of all of the above, it appears to me the stadium project is dead in the water the the future of our club has never been more uncertain.

Talk of political suicide is nonsense, the demographics of Oxfordshire mean football and OUFC can be killed by the councillors with the blessing of the majority which we are not in.

NOT ON MY F@@KING WATCH

The meeting that will be of interest is the Cabinet meeting scheduled for 23rd April 14:00. No agenda as yet. (usually appears about a week before.)
If the stadium is not on the agenda, I will be very worried.

A handful of people are trying to destroy a football club beloved by thousands. It's horrific and criminal.

How about a non disruptive protest outside the county council offices at their next monthly meeting?

A few hundred fans turning up with placards will get the media's attention and may just give the county council the kick up the a**e they need.
Yes, it's about time that supporter action is taken. OUFC will not die on our watch.

The time for action is now; there's no longer any point in delaying or relying solely on emails. We must take decisive steps immediately.
We can't allow party politics to play a game of 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' with important decisions like stadium construction; that's just nonsense.

I agree with holding public servants to account for their actions, but I would advise that we as fans need to act with caution moving forward.

The club have themselves raised concerns about the delays in the Heads of Terms being agrees, and we should hold the councillors to account for not what they agreed to. But a targeted and personal campaign is likely to be counter productive and more damaging to the application.

As frustrating as all of this is, planning applications follow a structured legal process. Planning can not be declined simply because one or two councillors are against it for personal or political reasons. They are expected to follow due process, and any deviation from that on either side could then be taken to a judicial review.

It is outside of our normal remit, but @OUSP will happily forward any guidance from the club on how best to proceed, and Im sure @OxVox are also monitoring the situation closely.

The best thing we can all do is to support the planning application and get others to fo the same. Email the relevant people at OCC to challenge to delays with agreeing HoTs. And contact all candidates in the local elections and coming general election to ensure they are under no doubt how strong the support is for the stadium and the survival of our club.

What is the full list of County Councillors involved who we should be emailing? I looked back at the previous emails I've sent and a lot of the names are not lining up (e.g. Levy is missing from my list). I was previously messaging the following 12, who if I remember rightly were part of the committee responsible for the lease:

liz.leffman@oxfordshire.gov.uk <liz.leffman@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; liz.brighouse@oxfordshire.gov.uk <liz.brighouse@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; glynis.phillips@oxfordshire.gov.uk <glynis.phillips@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; pete.sudbury@oxfordshire.gov.uk <pete.sudbury@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; tim.bearder@oxfordshire.gov.uk <tim.bearder@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; duncan.enright@oxfordshire.gov.uk <duncan.enright@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; calum.miller@oxfordshire.gov.uk <calum.miller@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; jenny.hannaby@oxfordshire.gov.uk <jenny.hannaby@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; mark.lygo@oxfordshire.gov.uk <mark.lygo@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; andrew.gant@oxfordshire.gov.uk <andrew.gant@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; kate.gregory@oxfordshire.gov.uk <kate.gregory@oxfordshire.gov.uk>; michael.oconnor@oxfordshire.gov.uk <michael.oconnor@oxfordshire.gov.uk>

Do we have a new, definitive, list of emails for the latest committee responsible for these heads of terms so that we can all email them?

This is from the OCC website.

Sorry Scotchers

I usually agree with what you have said about the stadium until now, but my fear is if we take no action we will see the end of our club. I feel Oxvox do a good job up to a point, but this is slowly slipping away from us and we ( Oxvox, OUSP, this and other forums) need to get organised and start protesting fast.

We cannot allow a small group of people who are owed favours destroy our football club.Sometimes the only way you can make people listen is to demonstrate loudly and often.Im not talking about glueing ourselves to the doors of County Hall but getting a march through Oxford which will get the attention of the National media

I agree, it seems we will smoothly navigate through the planning phase, only for the OCC to shift the goalposts later, claiming we didn't meet the conditions. I can envision it happening.

I have sent the following email to the following people:

Dear all,

As you will see below, some of you have been receiving correspondence from myself for almost two years now regarding Oxford United's proposed new stadium. In that time the proposal has moved from Stratfield Brake to the Triangle, and the makeup of the cabinet has also changed (I have added new councillors to this chain, and kept previous councillors on CC for their information as I see this as a cross-party issue).

I am getting in touch once again to urge the cabinet to progress the lease of land for Oxford United's new stadium. The future of the club hangs in the balance and further delays to signing of the Heads of Terms genuinely puts the club at risk.

Building next to Oxford Parkway station will make this the greenest football stadium in the country and something that the whole of Oxfordshire can be proud of - something I would expect the Green Party and Liberal Democrats to support. Indeed I have received positive correspondence from many of you in the past, but actions speak louder than words at this stage. Further delays ahead of the local elections will have a direct affect on my vote and the votes of friends and family, and conversely any positive movement and shows of support will also affect these votes.

If there are genuine reasons to delay signature of the HoT, I would urge you to make these public because, as it stands, it appears at face value that the cabinet of OCC is sitting on their hands and putting the future of OUFC at risk unnecessarily. If there are no genuine reasons to delay, then I urge you to sign the HoT without further delay.

Yours faithfully.

I think it really important that Oxvox and the club do communicate if they are able to.
To the supporters, the clubs comments were hugely concerning and then all we read are comments from Twitter...

The club must release a comprehensive and assertive statement. Up to this point, the only communication has been a succinct remark made on BBC Radio Oxford news. This statement should be disseminated through all available media channels.

The club have some of the very best people working on this project, and paying them very well for their services. I take confidence from their silence and know that far more work is going on behind the scenes than we see.

That's not to say that we don't continue to hold elected representatives to account, especially so close to crucial elections. But we're a long way off from taking direct action, and unless this is clearly structure and coordinated then we are at risk of causing more harm than good.

So many of us said there would be delays and to not ignore the opposition. If Swiss Yellow's tweets are true, this once again shows that the antis have some say in this (although not FOSB) and that delays are likely. Some on here tried to claim that they were finished and should be ignored. There are so many hurdles to jump yet.

The big issue here for me is not so much the progress of the stadium but where we will be playing in August 2026. It won't be the new stadium, so where?

Then why the broadside from the club on the 28 March to the council? Up to now, it has been positive and following each step to the letter (or as close as it can be - see the traffic modelling issue as an example), but that public show to the powers that hold the cards in all of this was an uncharacteristic move to what the club have been saying so far.

It showed a crack in this process to me. The fans have a right to feel concerned about this regardless of the good work from Jon Clarke at al up to now.

Councilors, have knocked back over 20 sites in & around Oxford since 1949.
This one is no different , touch & go in my opinion.
The 1 we did get , just look at the disaster of it .
