New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

I’ve just checked on google maps the time and distance from Sainsbury’s Kidlington to Cutteslowe roundabout via car

Via Oxford Road, 1.6 miles, 6 minutes.

Via Frieze Way 2.5 miles, 9 minutes.

So a diversion via Frieze Way adds less than a mile to your journey and takes just 3 minutes longer.

Demands for a bridge are ridiculous, totally unnecessary.

We should feel special, I can't imagine a bridge will ever be built for such a ridiculous reason ever again, a 0.9 mile extra journey for about 15 minutes a few times a year, they normally build bridges because they serve a purpose not just because they can.

Absolutely! It's an issue dreamt up by the LibDem and Greens simply to stop the stadium.

People arrive to games at different times from midday to kick off so no need to close the road. Of course a large number of people leave at full time so a 20/30 minute closure to allow people to disburse safely will be more than sufficient. That said I'm also confident in my ability to cross a road so makes no difference to me if its closed or not!

There's no need for a footbridge, that'll just be a wasteful use of money, materials and land.

There are 4 crossing points between Oxford parkway and Sainsbury roundabout.
Have been saying from day 1, that increasing the width of just 2 of them.
Would be more than adequate.
All linked to the traffic light system.
This is a very good point.
A 20 meter wide crossing would have exactly the same impact on traffic and traffic flow as a standard width crossing.

And not environmentally friendly

Exactly this.

Far bigger venues than our new ground move far higher volumes of fans across far busier roads, using surface crossing points and NOT bridges!

And unless the existing surface crossing points are closed on matchdays to prevent fans using them....guess what? - they'll use them anyway!

The demands for a bridge are a waste of money and bad for the environment too. A road closure is the cheapest and most environmentally friendly option.

And I give you Ian Middleton opinion on a bridgeScreenshot_2024-03-24-17-10-04-89_a5e8fe7543e41cfbc6cdd74088af5b74.jpg

Now while I agree a bridge isn’t needed for football matches and we could easily manage traffic and footfall without one, I do think that long term it would be beneficial and it is better to build it now rather than add it later on.
Reason being that if the stadium is used for concerts at any time in the future then there will be more people attending these events and a bridge would be useful.

I will never get over the idea of these politicians advocating private car use in North Oxford, yet at the same time enthusiastically supporting permanent road closures in other parts of the city.

The hypocrisy is off the scale, it really is.

I shall quietly chuckle when the planning application for a bridge is refused on environmental grounds.....

If the Lib Dems and Greens continue to insist on the unnecessary footbridge then vote for another party. Both in May and the General Election later thus year.
I'm in Kidlington West and it appears I have the option of three candidates, all Lib Dem. I won't bother voting if that's the case.

A bridge over a river is not a daft idea! what is though, is a bridge over a road where pedestrian crossings already exist and could be improved.
The bloke wouldn't know a good idea if it slapped him in the face

I may be wrong but I believe the bridge at Coventry is closed after games for safety reasons in case there is a crush.
Have been to several games this season plus oxfords always closed

That's the risk of a bridge, just close the road afterwards for 20/30 mins and allow us to safely disburse into all that space. Should anyone get hurt as a result of being herded like cattle onto the bridge then the councillors insisting on it will have blood on their hands.
