Ex-Staff Liam Manning

His record at BC is almost identical to DB’s here.

Many now saying LM could soon be gone if things don’t improve in next few games, yet think DB should be given the summer and a much longer chance here, quite interesting really.

Were Bristol City second when he took over ?

Manning is beginning to look a bit haunted..Good. Nowhere near the quality of (say) a Kieran McKenna.

As for having him back here, how ridiculous.

You’re telling me that if you were offered the opportunity of replacing Des Buckingham with Liam Manning right now, you wouldn’t take it ? I’d snap Mannings hand off in that scenario. We’d have an identity again and a manager who knows how to win in L1 - two things we just don’t have under Des Buckingham.

Oh dear.

Nonsense.

I have it on good authority that Manning was on £180,000 a year here, he was offered just under £750,000 per year at Bristol City. We upped it to around £220,000 but he was never staying, and nor would you for an extra £10,500 a week in your pay packet.

Thanks for the single-word first line.

Excellent preparation for the following sentences.

I do love someone with pride and standards , who wouldn't be taken the p*** out of and accept it .
That's not you btw baldy .

Personally no - we have now seen how he performs in our "promised land" of the Championship so he is not the man for that job (also very clear views on what most City fans think of him too)

Having said that, its also pretty clear that our Des is not that man either - not much point making that change now but serious thought should be given to that too at the end of the season

One year on £750k, get a substantial payout when you're sacked. Spend the rest of your career getting lower end Championship or L1 jobs paying you a couple hundred thousand a year.

Manning's taken a leaf out of Appleton's book!

I do get the financial debate. Probably around £400,000 net per year, very tempting. With 2 wins in 11 Championship matches in 2024 together with Stephen Lansdownes reputation for firing I doubt he has long left at the club. Sadly there are quite a few people who have lost their jobs because of him. They are probably not quite as well off.

Nope. Give DB a chance and a summer window and then see. Just because League 1 has been viewed as unduly weak this season, it doesn’t mean we had the right to be promoted. Remember the train wreck KR left here? We’re still stuck with the rubble of that - Browne taking a huge wage, the last few payments to Bodin, Henry and Murphy’s generous contracts, Seddon and Findlay still on our books. This season was always about improvement but with an albatross around our necks with it.

DB has a proven track record elsewhere. We haven’t seen the best of it yet but I believe he can do it.

Bristol City made their choice. So did Manning. They live with those choices.

Browne would probably warrant his wage if he stayed fit, Henry has been a great servant to the club and Murphy + Bodin are both good players for this level. Seddon + Findlay are out on loan so we're unlikely to be paying all their wages (unless we've negotiated an awful deal), and they'll both likely be sold in the summer, as I imagine will Browne and Henry (Henry probably released, though). Is it really that much of a 'train wreck'? We had a decent core, and Manning built ontop of that a good squad with Des adding to it - I'm not sure how you can say we're 'in the rubble'?

I think that his reputation would be tarnished.
Virtual relegation at MK and then despite the processes, regressing at Bristol City. Plus the way of his departure from Oxford won't have gone unnoticed.
I still think that he will stay at Bristol City to next season, but if they get any closer to relegation he is in trouble.
If he is sacked soon, the only way back as a Championship manager will be promotion from L1 in my view.

He’s certainly got to guard himself against the journeyman tag which is coming his way if he doesn’t lay down some roots somewhere soon.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Bristol city moved him on with the threat of a relegation battle looming unexpectedly. It was a bit of a ‘nothing’ season for them so it’s a difficult decision for owners whether to back their investment or twist.

I could see him getting a top half L1 job if he's sacked from Bristol City, especially if they're able to get him on a secure contract.

That's notwithstanding that it wouldn't wash very well with this current squad atm

Regardless of if he does well at Bristol City eventually or not, their fans are now using the sticks we gave them to beat him down with. Robotic interviews, looking down rather than into the eye of the interviewer, buzz word bingo. He's really fucked it for himself and I don't think our fans/Manning himself quite realize it just yet, but the signs are there.

Say he does well next season there and his name is touted for jobs higher - does anyone at Bristol City have full faith that he'd stay? Would they believe anything he says regarding speculation?

If he continues how he has started, he will go down as just another modern coach who reads the manual but doesn't have the people skills or personality to be a manager. No one will touch him unless they are desparate. He may get a coaching job somewhere, putting the cones out for someone better than him, but he damaged his reputation an awful lot by leaving us, more than people will ever believe.

He had it really good here and could have achieved decent things (IMO, this season was always a step too far, and we'd be around the same position we are now if he had stayed) but left on the first opportunity, and to quote Kevin Keegan "I will love it when Manning is languishing in league 2, LOVE IT"

Very well said.
