Dale looked well off it tonight so hopefully he picks it up as he gets minutes. Think Murphy, Rodrigues and Goodrham should be the front three behind Harris next game.

McGuane drops out for me based on tonight. Back four a little shaky, know Long had a few bad moments, but Moore and Brown well below their best tonight as well.

Great to have three points mind, especially after going one down.
McGuane looked better than Matete who looked very rusty but good he got minutes.

As per normal, with every team, Wigan targeted our right hand side from the off. Pinging ball after ball there. It was no surprise that both their goals came from our right. Putting Murphy there in the second half really helped as his pace ensured they struggled to get away but as soon as he went off, Bodin and Long were at sixes and sevens. I certainly do not want to be making Long a scapegoat but he was very poor, masked by Murphy going over there. I do admire his fight but at the next transfer window right back is an area we need to focus on, whatever league we are in.

Abject first half performance, much improved (although far from perfect) second half. Far too often we just don't seem completely on 'it'. We're far too one-paced and suffer too many mental lapses. When we play with intent and a bit of desire we look much better, but for whatever reason we just don't seem to be able to or want to do it for a full match.

It didn't work with Brannagan further forward in the first half. If we're going to play that midfield combination I think it needs to be a flat three as CB needs to be able to get on the ball and get his passing going.

I thought Harris was motm, although Goodrham's impact was very positive.

A win is good as it takes a little bit of pressure off of Saturday. Let's go there and really take it to them. COYY.
My assessment is we have some good players but are poorly coached. Des is learning on the job.

So it’s not a case of not knowing what the style of the team is under Des but more the fact you don’t like the style of the team under Des?

2 very different things.
Well my description of β€˜get to the edge and whack it’ is not all that far off what you described, I just skipped out the 3 or 4 phases prior.

I’d expect more from 20 games of management. It’s hardly the intricate attacking football I thought we’d get by now with these players back available but as I said before kick off, I only cared about a win today.

I honestly though a draw would’ve been fair but we bought a few more raffle tickets than they did and got some very fortuitous goals. The first was excellent from Murphy but again it’s from range. I’m far from convinced we’ll follow this up on Saturday but I’m bloody delighted we’ve won a game.

Just watched brief highlights of Bolton v Wycombe, and how Wycombe didn't score first is beyond belief. Bolton will be very relieved at winning that game. I just hope Wycombe are as wasteful on Saturday, otherwise it might not be the result we're looking for.

Honestly, don't care enough about the performance to complain. We've scored a lash of goals, and we have on many am occasion recently played so much worse than we have done tonight. It's progress and I'm here for it.

Well Brannagan's goal was fortunate, but he was pretty unlucky with the shot that hit the cross bar.
Goodrham was a little unlucky to hit the post, but Rodrigues followed up, and the 4th to me looked a great shot by Tyler.
'Very fortunate goals" is incredibly harsh in my view

I think in the end we deserved it. Tyler is a great player to come on and I think he’s improving under Des. Brannagan May well pick up with some goals. He’s been so unlucky with efforts against the bar.
I hope Goodwin gets some game time. The energy levels are certainly there now

For me, 1 or 2 goals tonight were 'unlike' of us to score (the rebounds and poacher goals). I just dont think we convert or even get close to them before (might just be me) and in my mind when I see us in those positions previously, I just wish we'd be at least close to score them. But, we seem to grabbing quite a few of those now. Just seems the manner in which we score some goals is 'different' and 'new'.

They were good goals but we weren’t very good. We gave them the freedom of the flanks! Especially the right. And kept giving it away in midfield! But we made it work and it’s something to build on. We’ll need to be better to get anything from the next three games though.

Every team we play targets our right. Both goals from that side. Long was very poor.

Long had a mare but stuck at it and came through. They target that side when Stevens plays too, we need to replace him with someone better. But it’s a team game and we gave them the ball far too much.

Right, I think this is correct but I need it checking. I can’t reconcile the numbers between matches played and matches managed so I sense there may be a few β€˜missing’ trophy/cup matches in the record.

Since turning professional in 1949, I believe that tonight’s result was our 1500th win in all competitions.

Perhaps a real statto out there can confirm it.

Yes, whoever plays there, that side is targeted. You can see clubs do it. Murphy going over there in the second half helped Long out big time rather than him coming through as his pace helped stop them getting down that side. When he went off and Bodin came on, Long struggled again. It's no coincidence both their goals game from the right side
