New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

I think the club need to respond, their are rumours going around, now FOSB and the Oxford Mail are reporting those rumours, its out there so just ignoring it, even if its very specious what the actual facts are will just add fuel to the fire.

If the club intends to push on with the stadium and can not come to a deal with Kassam, essentially being made homeless (which is what the council have had proven to them to get to the stage we are at now) then all the club needs to do is state those facts and this all becomes more gossip and nonsense, a spurious statement by Kassam in the local rag means nothing without any hard facts and evidence behind it.

Agree. Time for the club to put the record straight.

Is it possible Kassam was referring to 'buying " the stadium ? , I believe he wanted 20 million at one point?
I'm worried by the lack of communication from our owners directly and the lack of communication of late from Niall Mc'williams?
I'm hoping we haven't fibbed to the councils etc about the lease of the stadium etc.
Simple update from the owners could put this to bed quickly.

Agreed. The club's approach has to ignore the whining of FOSB and it has worked so far.

What do we think the impact of this 'article' will be? Tomorrow's chip paper, most likely.

I did that yesterday as their grant to KPC was withdrawn (albeit sipping a lovely mug of tea rather than smoking a cigar). They haven't scored any victory here unless they have a smoking gun that says the club could be forced to stay at the Kassam.

Another thing, what does 'stay' mean from FK? He won't sell it to the club so I presume he means lease it, knowing the club have literally nowhere else to go, to whatever terms he wants.

Your last point is the main one, Kassam saying the club can stay is meaningless without any facts behind it, he might be willing to let us stay if we give him £500 million, which is essentially making us homeless so what difference does that make?

I have said it above but I know for a fact that Kassam had potential buyers in for the ground about 10 years ago who were not the club and had no connection to the club, the ground has always been for sale at the right price but he has never had anyone go through the books and want to pay anywhere near his asking price.

If you rent a house and when your contract is up for renewal they offer you a new deal that is well beyond reasonable means then you are still being kicked out, unless we have more detail from Kassam other than what he has said (all properties are available at a price) then its a bit of nonsense at the moment.

You have answered exactly why the club don’t need to put out a statement. OCC have all the facts and that is who the club need to answer to, not a very very small group who are anti football fans.

Except the planning has not gone in, the clock is still ticking, there is no mention of timeframe from submission to us being there,, we have yet to overcome the current hurdles in a very long race, and our owners are in absentia.......... now`t to worry about.

So FoSB have generated a 'story' with no substance to it, purely to fan the flames.

Kassam has said something that is purely in his own interests.

The Oxford Mail have generated some click bait.

And the club have said nothing... at all.

It's all par for the course really, isn't it?

It would be jolly good if the club could start to take control of the situation though.

Still, I don't expect a fans forum or anything like that. It's not like this is a critical time in the clubs history. Maybe if Tim Williams can get himself on the Price Of Football podcast then he could deliver an update on there for us all.

Not now the rumours are out there, why let FOSB and Kassam control the narrative? We don't even know what Kassam is on about so this could go wildly in the wrong direction.

We can hardly claim to be open and honest if we don't respond with a statement to something like this, its time for Tim to put his big boy pants on and put out a statement (obviously after announcing the new signing, not having anything put that off).

I would like , a television or radio interview, with the club & k****m. To state the facts, & rummors, to put my mind at ease & thousands of others all over Oxford, Oxfordshire, Britain & the World....

I've been waiting for this latest FOSB "bombshell" to come out, and now it's dropped I think it's time for a few facts.

1 - The club have had to prove to OCC that the licence ends in 2026, with no right of renewal, as a condition of the lease for The Triangle, and they have done this. This is irrefutable. Does anybody really think that OCC would merely take the club's word for it?

2 - The club did not re-negotiate away their existing rights to stay after 2026, that licence was revoked by Kassam under the Force Majeure laws relating to the Covid epidemic. He served notice to evict the club, and the current agreement was the only way of staying at the current ground until the new stadium was ready. It is not some cosy agreement cooked up by the club.

3 - Anybody relying on a few words from Firoz Kassam as a central plank of their strategy will end up being severely disappointed. History has taught us that. The man cannot be believed, nor trusted.

4 - The article has no substance, nor context. It does not paraphrase the actual question that was allegedly asked of Kassam. That question could be "can the club stay fro an extra 3 months if The Triangle is not ready?" or it could have been "can the club stay on for another 100 years?" Without that detail it is a pointless statement, from a man who loves the role of pantomime villain.

What pisses me off the most about this is that once again our local paper has published yet another "story" from FOSB as fact, without any investigative journalism whatsoever, with no context, no balance, and nothing from OUFC (not even a "we asked OUFC for their response, but they declined to comment"). All this proves, if we didn't already know, is that the Oxford Mail has now sunk below the standards of even The Sun or Daily Star. Gutter press.

Spot on OCC have seen the evidence of what happens regarding The he Kassam in 2026 otherwise we wouldn’t be at the stage we are now.

It’s a truly terrible piece of journalism, as Colin says we don’t actually know what question Kassam is answering and what he means by the few vague words that are attributed to him, he is not even quoted.

A proper paper doesn’t go to print with that, just not enough substance, but the Mail is no longer a proper paper.

Christ on a bike! Great post.

BOYCOTT THE OXFORD FAIL

I've posted this before,
Firoka (Oxford United Stadium) Limited reclassified the football stadium and land as an investment property in the 2021 accounts at a value of £29M (at Sep 2019), then revalued again at £27.5M at Sep 2020, and £29.1M at Dec 2020.
On 15 Jan 2022 they transferred land [the car parks] to Firoka (Oxford) Limited at a value of £12M, leaving the stadium at a value of £17.1M.

They then restructured the group transferring ownership to Firoka (Stadium) Jersey Limited, and of course you can't get any info on that company.

Anyway, I think this makes clear that the long term intentions of the stadium are not to be hosting a football club paying £400K rent or whatever.

Wake up folks, we’re in trouble. There are 926 days left until Aug 1 2026 and we haven’t even submitted an application. There is zero chance of us playing at The Triangle in 26/27. Add a couple of years on and maybe we could.

Given that, the club should be delighted to hear that Kassam is open to us staying for a time, as ground sharing would kill the club financially.

We’ve played a high-stakes game of chicken and I think we’re going to need to blink first for the protection of the club.

None of this has anything to do with FoSB/Middleton. It’s simply a case of realism regarding logistics, bureaucracy and economics.

I understand that no one wants to hear this, let alone believe it so I’ll don the tin-hat, but above all else, OUFC must survive whilst staying close to Oxford, and that must be protected above all else.
You're quite new. Did you used to post under another name? Or did something make you want to join last summer?

Thank you.
As I always say there are 10-12 occ councillors yet it's always the same one who says anything does he not get given the same information surely if there was anything untoward about the agreement more of the occ councillors would come out and say something

That article from the OM truly is ludicrous. As others have pointed out, it contains no details whatsoever.

FoSB: "Firoka, would you allow Oxford to continue playing at the Kassam Stadium if they paid £5m a year for the privilege?"

Firoka: "Um - yes...obviously"

FoSB: "There you have it folks, OUFC can stay at the Kassam! OCC are corrupt. Don't trust foreigners"

Firoz Kassam cares about two things: money and Firoz Kassam. He'll do/say anything that a) makes him money or b) makes him look good.

I couldn't give less of a s**t about FoSB, but the OM have, as far as I'm concerned, destroyed any relationship it had with the club and fans.

They portray Kassam as a British businessman as well to show up our foreign owners for being, well foreign, but they can spend as many days in the country as he can as he is tax exile.
