What have you been listening to lately?

RIde have got a new album coming out soon, the bastards. How am I supposed to afford that?

I have never been to see a 'tribute band', and don't think I ever will. I was asked if I wanted to see a Bowie tribute not long ago, I just can't see why I'd want to do that considering I've seen David Bowie live on 5 occasions. And a Radiohead tribute? No, I don't think you can fake being Tom Yorke or Jonny Greenwood...

I can't make my mind up if its a good or bad move for them to play Oxford. I won't be there as supposed to be along the road seeing China Crisis.

What I will say is if it gets bodies into grassroots music venues then all power to them, a lot of these venues can do with all the help they can get. Just not for me.

I once saw a Rod Stewart tribute act at the Bullnose, someone nicked his microphone stand and he chased them round the pub calling them a c**t while the music played on, that's more entertaining than any Radiohead gig has ever been.

I saw a Pearl jam knock off last year playing Ten and it was surprisingly good. Not quite as good as 1992 when I saw PJ play the same songs in the same size club.

Just got out of a Mogwai gig that my daughter took me to*. Tiny venue, face meltingly loud. Best gig I’ve been to in ages.

*I feel like I’ve reached the pinnacle - I go to classical gigs with my wife, rock gigs with my daughter and the footy with my son. what a life.

I've never seen a tribute band either.
Though I like the idea of "proper" musicians doing a tribute band.
eg Blossoms and Rick Astley playing The Smiths.
Glen Matlock, Katie Puckrick, Clem Burke playing Lust For Life
also the Abba Voyage, where they have a live band including Little Boots on keys.
Elvana sounds quite fun (Elvis fronted Nirvana)

Somewhere on the internet is a great site where someone collected together all of the Beatles tribute bands and it looks like an awful version of Stars In Their Eyes where someone puts on round specs, a Sgt Pepper suit and a wig and becomes John Lennon. Also the Queen tributes where obviously the singer has to have a Freddie Mercury moustache and is inevitably wearing the yellow buckled jacket.

You might like 'The Jaded Hearts Club' then. If you haven't heard of them, they started as a Beatles tribute band then branched out into Northern Soul. The band is comprising of Matt Bellamy (Muse), Miles Kane, Graham Coxon (Blur), Nic Cester (Jet), and Sean Payne (The Zutons)

I have seen From The Jam a few times. Bruce Foxton is in the band that just play The Jam songs.
A kind of tribute band. Very good they are too (Nine Below Zero supported them in the Oxford Town Hall on one occasion)

If I wanted to see a Radiohead tribute act, I’d get a ticket to see The Smile.

(Jokes btw, Bending Hectic is the best thing Thom or Jonny have done in years).

It is a great track, although I'd say my favourite is 'Read The Room', there is just something about the uneasiness of it that is really connecting with me.

The new release is the ultimate headphones album.
