New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

To be fair, the Board and Niall McW has said all along that, although the timetable is tight, all efforts have been to ensure that we are in the new Stadium when we leave the Kassam.
There are presumably a number of things that should happen if there is a delay. So if the delay of a few games, then precedent suggests that the first few games could be played away.
If the delay us 6 months to a year, then there would, presumably be the requirement for a back up ground share. This would require EFL agreement, agreement of the local council where we may play (?).
If planning is turned down then O don't think that you need to worry about going to any other ground!
I actually don't think that this detail needs to told to everybody at the moment.I think that the mai issue is that we were told that planning eouod go in by the end of the year. There seem to be delays and nobody seems to be told why. Is this a concern?

Definitely is a concern that the planning hasn't gone in yet. Questions need to be directed at the board/owners.

In defence of the club, when is the next planning committee meeting? The more time antis have to study the plans the more reasons they will find to oppose the ground. Perhaps submitting at the last possible minute will alleviate this situation.

Edit: from looking at CDC website the next planning committee meeting is 11/1/24 maybe we were told that the plans would not be looked at then so we have delayed slightly.
The next meeting is scheduled for the 15/2/24 there is no agenda yet set for this meeting

That would come across as the the club having something to hide. The antis are gonna anti anyway - never in a blue moon is Suzanne McIvor going to turn to agent Middleton and say 'well, I'm convinced' and ask FOSB to fold. They'll object regardless.

The plans should be available for as long as possible for all to see, comment, compliment and object. We can do our bit by flooding them with approval messages, especially from those in Kidlington and other OX5 postcodes, should that be allowed.

It was always said that the plans would be submitted 'hopefully' before Christmas. There's been precious little on the next stage though and, such is the culture of the club at present, precious few leaks for gossip.

I'm slightly disappointed that the stadium website has been scaled back a touch. A lot of useful FAQs and background context for the uninitiated was on there. It could have had its own section but sadly not.

I won't be buying a season ticket if we relocate temporarily to another town. Not only will it cost alot more to get to games it will be extra time taken to make that journey.
You could stop going to away games for a while and use what you save to get to home games and put your (limited) cash into your club. And by maintaining your ST you'll have first dibs when choosing your position at the new stadium. Of course the need to play elsewhere (if it actually arises) for a few months won't suit everyone and will cheese people off but better that no football at all. Personally I've promised myself I'd never go to that dump at Wycombe again but if needs must...

I don't go to the majority of away games for the same reason , time and money.

A temporary relocation of one season maximum may work but the crowds will drop considerably as a huge percentage of the fanbase will not want to travel further than they currently do to home games.

I would rather if possible the club bend over backwards for Kassam and pay over the odds to stay at the Kassam for a further year. This way we can keep the momentum of big crowds going in to the new stadium.

Does anybody actually know if the planning application hasnt been submitted. Seems we are basing this purely because it hasn't appeared on cdc website from past experience it can take up to 2 weeks for it to appear

It’ll considered at a planning committee much later in the year (assuming we submit soon). Applications of this size would never allow for that speed of turnaround and not least because there will be a significant period of statutory consultation.

A lot of the country, especially those in professional occupations like those involved in designing a stadium, return to work next week. Hopefully we'll see some movement shorty after.

In the meantime I wanted to run something by you all.

As of this evening, FoSB are still prominently displaying the 'minecraft knockup' of the stadium (see below) which could mislead people into thinking that's the design they're stopping and supporting their cause and donating to them because of that mock up. This concerns me.

To ensure no more members of the public are misled into donating as a result of the fake imagery, I am minded to raise my concerns with GoFundMe.

I have drafted the below:

"This group is prominently displaying a fake image of the stadium they are trying to stop on their public social media page and their website. The fake, deliberately unflattering imagery produced by this group could cause people to believe that is the design of the stadium and encourage people to donate when they have been misinformed by this group thanks to the images.

Here is a link to their Facebook page which clearly displays the fake images: www.facebook.com/StratfieldBrakeFriends

Here is a link to the actual design of the stadium: https://oufcstadium.co.uk/the-vision/

Furthermore, the name of this group on your website, Friends of Stratfield Brake, is also potentially misleading. Stratfield Brake is site used for sport and the name also refers to a wooded area too. The site of the proposed stadium is at a plot of publicly inaccessible land known as The Triangle south of Stratfield Brake. The groups useage of the name 'Stratfield Brake' could mislead people into thinking public sports pitches and woodland is being built on and prompt them to donate to this group to save public accessible land which is not actually being considered as a potential site for the stadium. Please see for evidence of this: https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/council/about-your-council/oxford-united-stadium#paragraph-15138

Further still, the imagery used on GoFundMe appears to be stock images and not of The Triangle which again could be misleading to potential donors.

I feel it would be prudent for GoFundMe to seek declarations from donors that they were fully aware of what they were donating to and GoFundMe should insist on the removal of all fake and stock imagery and any references to 'Stratfield Brake' used on this groups website, social media pages and GoFundMe page before accepting further donations."

Thoughts on that? Would it be successful?

I've no idea if it would be successful, but I certainly back your initiative. I'm fed up of these disingenuous people having free rein to say what they like without being challenged.

Only one way to find out...

At worst, it gets ignored by GoFundMe. If there are any investigations made by them then FOSB get a nice January prod that we're not going away.

Go for it!

As @Berliner says, you either get ignored or get an outcome.

They’re an irrelevance and doubt they are raising much in the way of donations now but anything that kicks the odd stone out of the FOSB’s walls is fine by me. Hey, IM is forever tainted with his historic tweets being front page news in the OM. This may yield results too.

Go for it! All of your points are valid and reasonable cause for concern

Definitely. Time is of the essence and something that bothered me before Christmas once it became apparantly it wouldn’t be put in that side of Christmas. Even if it’s an email with an update would be welcome to everyone on the database, it’s not good enough to mention nothing when the future of the club is at stake & the board need to start treating the supporters with a little more respect.

Yup. I asked the question on the Wasn’t At The Game just before Christmas when this finally got into the public domain.

Although I already knew the answer from some separate conversations, I was concerned that the club weren’t going to say anything (as turned out).

It wasn’t so much the delay that worried me (it’s a common occurrence due to constant planning officer demands for late revisions) but the latest example of the club’s non-existent communications strategy and a another broken promise just ignored.

Tim Williams (and those who report into him with a role in this area of the club) have learnt nothing since last Spring’s debacle when things got toxic.

Last week, our CEO said the following, entirely without irony:

“It is for these reasons that the football pyramid needs to be protected, and I can promise you that I will use my voice both in government and the Football League to make sure clubs like Oxford United are listened to at a national level.”

Mate, you don’t even listen to your own fans, let alone the views of other clubs. And “my voice in Government” - please. Why not start doing your actual job properly before pretending you’re got a hotline to Whitehall.

We deserve better.

Think it’s clear that Tim thinks we can be mugged off and just accept not being kept in the loop. After all, it is us who will fill the stadium. It is us who will have to live with the stadium for the next generation of supporters. They are doing nothing to attract the old supporter back that was lost by Kassam being a leech. I’m afraid I’ve seen nothing that makes me think Tim Williams is capable of leading this club forward. The money is there, but I’m afraid I think the brains are not, especially in the areas that are desperately needed. You only have to look at the banning of the Yellow Army not being able to sell their merchandise of how much contempt the people in charge of the club on a day to day basis have for its core supporter.

He repeatedly demonstrates that he fundamentally doesn’t understand the qualities and skills required to be a successful CEO.

But that’s wider than just the stadium situation so I’m going to shut up now or else I’ll go all Stressed Eric.
