Ex-Staff Liam Manning

Not much else to add to what others have said. He’s gone for the money and for a team in the division above. He's got that gig achieving less than Karl Robinson has in his career.

Do I wish him ‘good luck’? Not really. He leaves us having done plenty (with others, I should add) and on course for a good thing and something proper to add to his CV. He could have seen that through and then jumped to another project and I don’t think anyone would have had much truck with that. Better still, he would have had a safety net should it not work out Bristol City. ‘Liam Manning struggled at [Championship club X] but he did a great job with Oxford back in 2023-24’ – that sounds better than ‘Hey, that job at Lommel was ok though, wasn’t it?’

The lack of thanks from GF and TW is excellent. A boatload of salt and a bit of pass-agg too. I won’t care too much if he does well. I think I’ll be dining on hulking great slices of schadenfreude pie if it doesn’t.

If you believe in the individual you have recruited then you don't leave yourself open with a silly clause like that.

We've gone from one extreme where our board struggled to justify a big payoff (another clause) to get rid of KR to leaving ourselves open that our overachieving manager got poached.
You're guessing what was in his contract, and I really don't agree with you regardless, the board gave Liam huge resources and control over the clubs football activities.

Very saddened by the news. We need stability as quickly as possible. Here's hoping that there was a plan B in place. Buckingham seems to be the consensus choice of the forum. Sigh. Football is a cruel mistress.

What does Des Buckingham know about L1 ?

With all due respect, you are talking rubbish if you think the blame lies with Tim & Grant.

Manning's arrogance and sly behavior has caused this, nothing else. Good riddance to the guy and I would throw Hogg in to the same snake category as Manning after his interview he did yesterday.

I hope we can get this frustration out and move forward - sticks in my craw a bit how much we still harp on about KR, and not sure I can be arsed for us to have a new punching bag in Manning.

Given the club's recruitment both of Manning and of players in the last 9 months, I'm actually pretty excited to see where we go next. We're in a much better place structurally and I think that will really help with getting osmeone good through the door (on a f*****g long contract too!!). Fingers crossed.

NIL DESPERANDUM.

Such is the absurdity of supporting a football team.

We move on and that’s the nature of the modern game. Manning did a great job in the time he was with us and I’m grateful for that.* And I think the board have a clear understanding now what we need and how effective that can be if we get it right. Truth be told, a little of the gloss had already started to come off for me. Only a bit. But some of the pedestrian play, some of the clumsy language in his interviews and some of the decisions ‘in game’ had started to set off a few little alarm bells. Only little ones. But alarm bells nevertheless. So see you later Liam, and let’s see who comes in next to unreasonably inflate our expectations before something else happens to deflate them again.

* Obviously I hope that he fucks up at Bristol City, gets sacked and gets syphilis on his top lip at the same time.

The contract created this mess.
You know exactly what was in the contract do you?
After Tiger offered KR a ridiculous contract extension,I’m sure the Board are very wary.Hiw stupid would they look if they offered him a 3 year deal and we were relegated?
We have no idea what happened after we stayed up contract wise but we do know he was backed by the Board player wise.

Edit
Have just seen what @ECYellow has written saying Manning was on a one year rolling contract and was offered a 3.5 year deal at BCFC
If this is true and the contract wasn’t renegotiated after he kept us up then the Board are to blame and I apologise @WhyteMustard

He turned down Championship offers to stay at MK according to their fans, he was then sacked a few months later. The length of contract and money increase will also be a huge factor but he has obviously made this decision based on his past experiences in football.

Although I could totally understand his reasoning and said I wouldn't be bitter, I've felt bitter about it since the official announcement. So for absolutely no logical reason, f*ck you Liam.

Two of the biggest snakes to walk through the door of Oxford United now F**k off..

I wouldn’t call Hogg a snake, I think bottle merchant is the correct term. Job was there for him if he just had the nerve to stop holding Mannings hand and he couldn’t get the courage up to leave him, imagine having to go through the rest of your life knowing you bottled it.

One thing we did see with Manning was it took time to integrate his style of play on the club, and had the benefit of a full summer transfer window.

No such luxury at Bristol City, so he'd better hope the team are quick to learn and the squad balanced right for his ideas. Else that long contract could just equal a big payout.

For what it’s worth….

I think admin should archive this thread now. Pointless to keep on with angsting and recriminations
Forget LM. He’s gone.

Has Conte got a job yet?
Odd thing to say considering the Robinson thread is still going strong. I'd say everyone has every right to feel pissed off and angry at Manning for this and should be allowed to vent their frustration.
