Transfer News Summer 2023 Post-Transfer Window

Harris is doing a great job apart from scoring enough. Iam sure Liam has got a list and hopefully will surprise us .Maybe another right back another midfielder and 1maybe 2 strikers. Then Odonker, Smyth out on loan and the the lad from Leeds going back. What a squad we will have then.

I wish we knew what the hell Perkins has or has not done? West Ham and Leeds both rated him, so is it a personal issue? Would love to see him get a game.

Whilst this would be fantastic, I'm not convinced that Ladapo would necessarily drop down a division. If available, I suspect a whole host of championship clubs would be sniffing to take him.
Maybe. However, let's also not forget we have a couple of players here already from Ipswich and assuming they all get along, that might be all the necessary pulling power we need. If we remain in the hunt until January, I'd make us a more attractive proposition than running about after lost causes for an underdog in the Championship - he's been there, done that.

I think both Ladapo and Matete have both been injured. Depending on the Bristol city manager situation, Mehmeti might leave on loan in January.

If we are in the mix, I would imagine we would look to get a few high end loans (assuming Perkins goes back).

Fwiw, I’m not sure why perkins hasn’t worked out. Assume he worked with manning at West Ham, England youth international and rated by the clubs he has been with.

Agree, it'll most likely be high end loans (1 or 2). More than happy with this as the priority will be to maintain momentum, and get us over the line.

The only other area that no one has considered is foreign signings. The HoR identified this as an area that the club needed to improve. Added to the change in rules for signing foreign players, it could be an area that we see the club move into.

Reading between the lines of this quote from a LM interview in the OxfordMail, then I'd say he is a bit too big for his boots around the place and in training, and needs to step it up.

If somebody’s in credit and you want to force my hand, you have to be an eight or nine every day in training, which Sonny is progressing in those areas.
He’s improving in training but we still want more from him. He’s still going to play a part, it’s just a case of when.
He’s just got to make sure he keeps his head down and keeps working. We support him and brought him in because we know some of the qualities he’s got.
It’s about now making sure that he hits the level in training every day, so when someone’s level drops or there’s an injury, he’s ready to step in and grab the opportunity.

If this is the case, it will get passed back to Leeds. If they have a Loans manager then he needs to get his a**e down here and explain to Perkins that he is representing Leeds United, and Oxford and Leeds are paying him to act like a fkin adult.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions re Perkins.

If he was a problematic personality to have around the club or couldn’t be bothered to train properly then he would be sent away. The money is gone anyway as the loan can’t be terminated until January, so if he was strutting around like an arrogant so-and-so or showing absolutely no desire then he would be sent packing. There would be no need to keep him around if he was a negative influence - he’s not even in the squad as it is so there’s literally no benefit. That he is still with the club suggests his attitude can’t be terrible. He’s a teenager out on his first loan.

We beat a number of clubs at this level to get him. Chris Williams was very open about the amount of competition we faced for his signature in his first interview, and the player himself said he and the club had been talking for several weeks prior. Combine that with the fact that Manning knows him from West Ham and I think it’s pretty unlikely that he’s magically developed a personality issue.

Manning has mentioned previously he's not setting any targets regarding promotion, playoffs, points etc. His mantra is to aim for maximum effort and quality in training week in week out. Looks like he sets the players the same targets on personal levels too. Even if Perkins may be the more gifted player from a league higher, GOD gets the NOD if his training is a level higher every day, fair play.

Perkins is known to have a bad attitude. My Leeds supporting mate asked me how he was getting on. I said he's not played apart from a brief appearance in the Papa Johns. His response "cos of his bad attitude?"

Going by Manning's desired character traits and the very clear efforts to steer clear of dick heads, I find this unlikely and probably just the opinion of a cynical fan who knows very little about him having not seen him play. Manning knows him from previous so if his attitude stank he wouldn't have got the call. Smells to me like a player that has not had particularly good guidance during the last 18 months and he needs a bit of help snapping out of a mentality he's in which I suspect a lot of young players at big clubs get suckered in to.

Ladapo - best season in L1: 17 in 46 for Ipswich - a team so good Greg Leigh couldn’t get in - the answer to our goal scoring problems.

Smith - best season in L1: 15 in 46 for Cambridge - doesn’t score enough. Also five years younger.

I don’t get this place.

Ladapo scored 18 in 45 in 18/19 for Plymouth, and then 14 in 31 for Rotherham the following season.
In fact he has scored at a rate of better than one in three in every season he's played at this level (for three different clubs) since 2018. Something Sam Smith still hasn't achieved.

Plus, we're working on the basis that Ladapo will be available on a low risk short term loan (if he's not, then he's not coming here).
Sam Smith would likely only be available for a fee and a long-term contract.

If Perkins leaves, that'll be one loan spot.

But if we signed two loanees, then they couldn't both be in the matchday squad as well as Beadle, Stevens, Edwards & Mills - max is five.

I suspect (and hope) that we might make the Edwards move permanent providing he comes back from his hamstring injury and stays fit throughout December.

I think we're in danger of getting into Tyler Burey territory with Perkins where there is one suggestion or throwaway comment that he has an attitude problem, it gets repeated enough time that it becomes fact and loads of posters pile in on him. Like others have said Manning doesn't seem interested in that type of player and he knew him previously. Of course that was a few years back, he may have had people telling him how great he was since then plus brief appearances in the Premier League and Europe and changed a bit but it seems a few people are starting a run up ready to jump to that conclusion.

It was similar with Tyler Smith last season. People assuming he had a bad attitude or there was a falling out because he was barely ever in the squad, despite the fact he had been kept around while Konate had been sent back to Forest.

Not suggesting Konate had any attitude problems to warrant his exit, btw, just pointing out that if Konate had been sent back early then there was no reason for Smith to still be in the building if there was a problem. Same with Perkins now. If he was a problem, he would be gone.

Signing a winger with a suspect hamstring? Ah, just like old times.

Whereas actually the situation was that he was so bereft of confidence, that we couldn't expect to get any positive contribution out of him.

Same may well be true of Perkins at the moment......hopefully we'll get a sighting on Tuesday night, and can judge for ourselves!
