Interest has been in Negru (Bristol) and Brown (Aberdeen), so they're most likely to be on exit list for a fee. Others will be mutually agreed terminations.

I’m not saying Henry’s legacy should see him kept on, just that he doesn’t seem to get the respect that someone like a Taylor, for example, was afforded when he left
Because in the harsh reality, Henry hasn't contributed much in the last two seasons. Last season 1 goal and 3 assists in 29 appearances.

He's been one of our best players for quite a while. Yes, he's starting to decline, and yes he may soon be on his way, but there's this seeming exuberance at throwing him on the dust heap that is pretty distasteful to me. Of course there's room for sentiment in football. Unless you want to support PSG or something...

My gut feeling is if Marriott was moving here, it would have happened by now.

He's clearly not invested at Fleetwood. They need the cash too. I suspect the player fancies it and the club know it.

There's a bit of a dance going on I feel.

I expect we'll get it sorted before deadline, possibly on more favourable terms than those suggested here.

Bet you hoped we kicked Joey out when he got his toe injury too, eh. No room for sentiment. It's a business. Chew them up and spit them out.
It's not about sentiment, it's about getting the club to where it needs to be. I think Henry should leave, you don't and that's fair enough.

There is a weird apathy towards Henry. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t been here for a promotion. Maybe it’s because he’s spent the last year not offering a great deal when fit or not.

They guy has scored nearly 50 goals at a rate of 1 in 4 from midfield over six years. I’d argue he’s been at least as good a player for us than Brannagan over a similar period, yet little room for sentiment it seems.
Yes it is weird. I wonder if it’s because he seems laid back and not a wholehearted demonstrative geezer?

His last good season was 2-3 years ago. For example Murphy who many want gone has the potential to turn his form and career around at his age and with his ability, but most seem happy to forget about him and move on. I'm not questioning the good JH has done in previous years but I just think it's time. Can you find a space for him in the match day squad if he was fit for tomorrow, out of interest, who would he come in for?

Fit is the key word.
Age has caught up, pace, strength on the ball all diminished
Too many sentimental fans; squad now assembled makes a Henry decision so much easier.
Move on.

Football is absolutely all about sentiment for fans, otherwise you’re just watching a load of overpaid big kids running about in their PE kit.

@oufc123 You miss the point entirely. I can see a case for Henry leaving, but I'd still be really sad to see him go because of his past times with the club. It'd be great if people at least acknowledged that aspect rather than seemingly being keen to kick him out post haste.

I'd be happy to leave the door ajar and gently usher him out rather than give him the boot, as long as he closes the door on the way out. Is that better? 🤣

Sadly the demise of Robinson was extending ,Henry ,Taylor and to a point Eastwood and Long .Mind you I hope Long gets a goal tomorrow sets one up and gets Mom but we all know to get to the championship we need better that's the sad truth. The top managers especially Ferguson never stood still how many rebuilds did Utd go through .Mind you into todays game he would have been sacked before he got them winning. I think Manning has certainly got a plan and has made incredible strides this window and I still think wr have got 2 more to come in. It's been tremendous fun now let's hope the team keep doing the business.

Not sure if this was picked up by anyone, but just seen tonight.

The point about not having a standout player is one that I made after the Derby game. I think that we'll see the odd 9 out of 10 performance, but many more who are solid 7/8 type players or games were there are collective strengths rather than individual ones.

And consequently, I think this will reflect the type of players that we're looking at. I don't know a huge amount about them personally, but I get the feeling that Mariott is more of a Liam Manning type player than JCH for example which could be a reason why we appear to have gone back in for him rather than exploring other options.

Some players will contribute in every game, some in only a handful. A fit James Henry could still make some big contributions, even if off the bench.

Personally I'd hope to keep the vast majority of the squad together to give us the maximum depth possible. McGinty will likely go out, and may be Gats depending on who comes in. But I'd happily keep Henry and Murphy, especially as we'd likely be paying 80% of their wages to play elsewhere anyway.
Im amazed Scotchers that you of all people would like to see Gats go out. He needs to develop right here, who has gone out on loan and come back and pushed on? I dont recall anyone. Gats has shown quite enough already to be given a chance here . I would far rather have him than some supposedly big name older striker like marriot.

If we went for a younger option for a striker we could do worse than look at Jude Soonsup Bell or Jamie Donley at spurs. Both started the reserve season well & are very highly rated.

I love Gats and would love to keep him around. But there's absolutely no way that you could compare him to Mariott right now. One has scored 120 goals at 1 in 3 ratio, the other is a beast but still exceptionally raw and has not always looked like the most natural finisher.

If we could be sure that he'd be given plenty of minutes through rotating the strikers then yes, keep GO'D and allow him to grow and develop here. But if his time is going to be limited, and he could struggle to make the bench if/when an established striker arrives, then a loan move could be the best option.

As for going out on loan and pushing on, Tyler is a good example of this recently.
