Away Match Day Thread We+++ 28/8/18 Newport County v OUFC Carabao Cup matchday thread +++

Might be a silly question but... Who reviews appeals at this level? I know there is a panel in the Prem. Doubt such a thing exists lower down.

Top stuff.
Now let's get the big payday at Old Trafford/Anfield/Emirates etc. in the next round, please!

Hanson's red card is the sole annoyance. I assume next week's tinpot cup game won't count for the ban? So that'll be three league games he misses.

Indeed, tinpot trophy is seperate from other competitions

No but remember Beano's sending off at AFCW? It was never a red card and we of course lost the appeal after the linesmen backed up the referee.

If my memory serves me right the AFCW player went down holding his left side of his face yet when Beano went up he was on the right side of him, cheating c**t.

Can’t complain at that. Another round navigated and a few more important minutes for our fringe players plus a few first teamers.

More importantly, our lopsided results are looking better - 3 in the wins column now to 4 defeats. A long way to go but maybe we’re just starting to click.

Of course. Even though who's played in previous games is a consideration? I'd be inclined to get everyone sent off in the first round of the tinpot. I assume that the cards wouldn't translate to the league? Naive, I know.

Really enjoyed that.

Baptiste will understandably get the headlines for the goal but he had a great all round game tonight. Think he could have a bigger impact for us playing wide as opposed to in the middle. Really mature performance from him.

As others have said White looks an absolute steal. He is rapid. He has only had a few weeks full time training, so there could be more to come!

Not too many negatives tonight but I still think we look short up front. Thought Smith & Obika worked hard but neither of them seemed to give us that cutting edge down the middle.

We want a low ranked side at home, or a monster home or away! That’s all you can ask.

I don’t think it’s a red at all, Hanson looks to have toe-poked the ball away and got clattered - but I can see why the ref has given it (especially with two or three Newport lads instantly piling in making ‘stamp’ motions).

No way it will get overturned though. The ref won’t admit it was an error, and the video isn’t clear cut enough in that unless his foot was glued to the floor it will still be deemed raised, and therefore dangerous. As others have pointed out, at this level officials back each other up. We’ll get nothing...

(EDIT - take a bow Shandon though. What a goal!)

How is that a red? If anything it's a foul on Hanson. He's won the ball then gets brought down off the ball.

If that's a red card then Whyte should of been sent off for almost an identical challenge on one of their players prior to him taking it forward and getting a shot off.

It's a 50/50 challenge and both players have gone in with the same amount of force. If ref's start giving red cards for that then there will be 5 or 6 yellow cards a game every week.
