What's your prediction for the next 5 weeks until the season starts, and by the end of the transfer window? I'll go with;

2 strikers (1 perm, 1 loan)
1 left back/lwb
1 holding/defensive mid
1 winger (maybe PL loan)
1 wildcard type signing (loan)

Maybe a development player or two to mirror previous transfer model.

What do you think?

Great, once Kip gives his predictions we'll know the actual outcome will be somewhere in the middle.

I think LM and the club knows we need 2 or 3 in for that position or we are going to be nowhere near a challenging position.

Surely we’ll get a main striker and a youngster on loan, and a left back.

I think we will look to Browne and Rodrigues to support O Donkor. Maybe a loan in that situation.

It's hard to tell if the money is there or not, we have made some genuinely very decent signings this summer, but when we needed to spend it (i.e to save ourselves from a relegation battle,) we chose not to.

And I'm hearing the familiar "expectation setting" from Liam with the "incredibly hard to find a striker" which seems to be a recurring theme for us. It's not of course, Alfie May, Cole Stockton, Aaron Collins etc but you have to pay for them.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re fantastic on this front. But I don’t think they’ll have faced this kind of challenge before. They’ve lost 2 championship-level players already and face losing their goal scorer. They also lost Jevani Brown and Jack Sparkes who were a big part of their side.

It’s a lot to replace in one summer but they do have the resource now. It’ll need to go a long way but perhaps they were ready for this and know who their targets are. They can’t just spend it all on prospects when they need 50 points, still. Tricky few weeks ahead for them.

From what I've read, they didn't seem bothered about Jack Sparkes and were surprised he ended up at Pompey. They'll be all about survival anyway, in the first instance, and selling Nombe would make that even less likely so that is why I can only see a big figure being needed to prise him from them. There is more value, imo, in them keeping Nombe than selling him at £700k.

The one thing on the team rebuild, Exeter are used to this scenario and having to rebuild relying on the next Academy players coming through as a big part of that.

Alfie May is 30 and wouldn’t make sense from a financial perspective considering we’re going back to our old recruitment strategy , Cole Stockton isn’t very good and Aaron Collins isn’t an out and out striker and is probably 2m+. Liam Manning is right, there’s a lack of strikers available. (Hence why we’re looking abroad)

They were down the list, but the point is that we were always going to be bringing players in. There was next to no chance of “no more in” when you said that was happening, and the club were scattergun putting in offers when you said “done unless anything falls into our lap.”

If you’d said “we’re bringing in players but don’t expect much” then there might be some evidence that your mate exists.
