General New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Land Deal

I agree the public transport links are much better than the Kassam, but there are some things people are forgetting.

The season hasn't even started yet and people have identified potential travel problems due to rail issues for the upcoming season, but more namely - cost.

It's all good and well having more public transport, but it needs to be cost and time efficient!

I noticed that you edited your post to take out the costs. You may have done so after realising that off peak day returns which would cover all Saturday games and most midweek games (depending on travel time to the stadium) would cost less than half the price of the ticket you suggested, and that is without any subsidies being provide by the club or train companies.

We also have to remember that car journeys don't only cost the price of the fuel, but general wear and tear. So the difference between car journeys and using public transport isn't an great as you previously suggested

Park and rides no good , how can you have a few sherberts ? Best way public transport door to door even a short taxi journey!
Talking of taxis has Kidlington got a decent outfit , a phone link straight to the new hotel would bring in revenue and jobs or even a three car taxi stand !

On the subject of unanswered questions:

So if someone in Thame (or any other place around the county close to a train station) gets a lift from their other half, or with a group of fellow fans in a taxi to Haddenham and Thame Parkway station, then travel by train to Oxford Parkway, then you think they shouldn't be included in the club's claim of 90% using sustainable modes of transport?
I can't see how you would include them. I take the statements the club have made regarding this topic as 90% of match-goers journey's will be made entirely by 'sustainable' methods, not just bits or parts of it. If you include that then you may as well include the people using the park and ride, as regardless of the fact they used a car to get there they finished their journey at the stadium on a shuttle bus.

So to you, someone getting a lift 4 miles to their nearest train station - and then getting a train 21 miles to the ground, is the same as someone driving 24.5 miles and then getting a shuttle bus half a mile?

You're being deliberately obtuse.
Public transport is rarely door to door.
What you're thinking of is a f**king taxi.

E cars of course !

I will think what I like thank you and that is, you are part of a group which are against the stadium.
Not one fan is burying their head in the sand, they are just waiting for more information. Right now there is nothing out there from the club which can be criticised by the fan base. I understand an opposition group trying to make stuff up and scare people but again, as fans we can see through these lies.
You are now playing the victim card and have a ‘why always me’ attitude. Well Balotelli, people will start getting annoyed if you pop up on an an Oxford United forum and start trying to find fault in something that is so vital for the football club’s future.

As for your question, was that the one where you said ‘that’s fair enough for now?’. I’ve answered it….I think you’re talking out your back side and are being scripted.

Someone suggested you might just be the most half empty fan we have…we have @greatunclekip who is just that but, we all know he is Oxford through and through and wouldn’t try and talk down something like a new stadium before the information is out there.

On a positive note, I hope the fact you are still posting on here and the MOD’s haven’t banned you hasn’t gone unnoticed with Vicky. She would have had you blocked by now!
I think you're getting confused, Steve.

Part of my whole point here is that there is very little detail and no clarification/certainty in much of what we've been told so far, and you've jumped down my throat for making such a point.

You've now just acknowledged that we're all waiting for more information... so after all this we agree, then? The information that we have isn't enough and lacks clarity?

Get over yourself.

You won't answer any questions that would force you to consider your narrative, and there's not a single person on here that thinks everything's perfect.
I'd love to hear what people think isn't 'perfect' with the plans? I'm yet to see anyone on here do that.

Wantage line may be opening again , two changes to get to Oxford Parkway .
So much going on everything seems to bode well for the Triangle Stadium !

The stilted way you write marks you out as a troll … or perhaps you are an advanced FOSB bot?

OK so what about suggesting that inevitably the move will mean a far higher % of people going by public transport.
Whether it is 60%, 50% or 70% ( with short driving to a train station).
Do you accept that?

In all honesty I believe that the 90% mentioned in the reduction in car use would apply to on site parking ! Makes sense as 2000 parking places at the Kassam less 90% is around Two hundred parking places or just less, that they have planned for on the Triangle site ! You can interpretate many aspects of the clubs statement but realistically I believe the above !

I'm calling it now, @OxShireWest IS a FoSB bot with some knowledge of OUFC.

It's too suspicious how he became active in this thread, and then adds disruption to other threads. His posting history does not add up to a yellow for me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but I'm not having it anymore.

“I'd love to hear what people think isn't 'perfect' with the plans? I'm yet to see anyone on here do that.”

Hilariously transparent. You could just picture the fingers hovering over CRTL+C after posting this.

“They’ll definitely say something negative after I’ve laid such a cunning trap.”

It’s a great irony that football fans are thought to be so stupid when this is the kind of tactics employed by those who seek to sow division and negativity.

Must do better.

hows the cycling going- are you on your bike as yet @OxShireWest ?

Reducing car use, not eliminating it. We average 8500 fans currently at the Kassam with 90% reliant on cars for the entire journey. That's less than 1000 fans using public transport.

When we move to the Triangle, we should be close to 14,000 average with the current growth and predicted increases from a ground move. If only half use public transport that is an increase in over 700% and a huge reduction in car journeys and all of the environmental benefits that come with that. The other half will not all be single journeys and would likely involve large numbers car sharing and spreading these journeys around the city by taking advantage of the huge number of unused P&R spaces with shuttle buses provided.

However you look at it, access to and from the Triangle will be night and day with the Kassam and thousands of fans will take advantage of the fantastic public transport links. Traffic will be reduced and dispersed over a wider area to minimise the impact that will only likely occur for around 30 mins post game, 25 times a season (with some of them late in the evening when roads are otherwise pretty empty).

Suggestions of traffic gridlock and parking nightmares are just ridiculous and designed to scare people into believing that Kidlington will be swamped by hordes of beastly football fans.

I believe Brighton do a discounted travel and match ticket scheme, I'd hope the club are looking to do something similar with their transport partners.
I'd be interested to know how much this scheme costs Brighton, as the cost of the ticket doesn't cover the free travel and the club subsidise the rest. They're currently doing a review of the scheme.

Just a couple of months ago Brighton (the club) said this: “Our costs — over which the club has no control — have increased across the board and continue to do so, with the cost per person much higher than ever envisaged.

“Nonetheless we continue to receive regular feedback, positive and negative, direct to the club about travel.
