Not too keen on the arsenal lad. See he wasn’t starting towards the end of the season in the conference. If he can’t make the first 11 at that level he will surely struggle in league 1
Smyth couldn’t secure a loan move to Newport last season even when going on trial there and struggled at Solihull. He came back and was one of our better players when he played.

I doubt a youngster from Arsenal academy is going to pull up trees in a league like the national league where you will get lumps kicked out of you!

I think beadle is pretty young to be between the sticks for a promotion chasing side....on the OTHER HAND, if you are good enough you're old enough.

I agree, and that's exactly what most people have been doing, discussing the pros and cons of Easty's position at the club, whilst being appreciative and respectful to someone who has been a great servant to our club.

But it's those who are constantly slating him as "s**t", and flatly refusing to acknowledge the major role he played in keeping us up last season, that really pickle my turnips.
As you say, been a very good servant, and generally a good shot stopper who last season bailed us out on several occasions. This said, the games changed and his ball control when it was passed back to him, and subsequent distribution was hurried and/or often poor. The latter putting pressure on the defence and midfield.

Stevens doesn’t seem the answer, although initially looked promising, and McGinty I don’t think will ever be close to L1 standard (let’s hope I am way off on this). Therefore, we desperately need one, if not two goalkeepers in.

One thing I will say about Easty is that he doesn't inspire confidence anymore. When that happens, it's time to move on.

That's all I meant. Not sure why it's been met with some frankly abusive responses.
You are being met with hostility (from regular, sensible posters) on this and other matters because there is the strong suspicion that you are not exactly what you are purporting to be. You have still not listed what you think the positives of the new stadium will be and how it will benefit the area in which it is planned to be built, but are happy to dream up scenarios that prove it is bad and that the club is somehow being economical with the truth - which gives the impression that you actually do not want the new stadium. You are also very abrasive towards other posters, almost as if the people on here are not people you really feel comfortable talking to ...

I don’t know what happened exactly, but him not starting certainly wasn’t down to lack of quality. I think he fell out with the manager or something. Whenever he played he was one of their best players.

It would be interesting to see a Venn diagram of the people questioning Beadle’s age with those who don’t want to loan out Goodrham. Not drawing any conclusions or passing any judgement, but it’d be interesting.

I can understand peoples concerns because keeper is the one position in football where it isn't really a team sort - there's no hiding place, you're on your own. Perhaps the reticence is because a few very young keepers we've had over the years, especially on loan, have looked a bit fragile. Connor Ripley stands out as one who looked like the proverbial rabbit in headlights in a game, I think, v Southend at home.

Understand why you would draw this comparison but due to the nature of their positions, the debate loses some validity.

The mistakes a young winger makes are likely to be less costly than a young goalkeeper.

The general mood on here is really weird at the moment. Lot's of negativity and bickering.

You wouldn't think it was less than one week since the window opened, and we'd already made three excellent signings, with more clearly in the pipeline.

I think people (myself included) have allowed themselves to get dragged into petty nitpicking about certain things, and after the last several summers being incredibly miserable and frustrating, we need to enjoy what's actually happening at the club right now.

For the first time in years, it feels like our recruitment is in safe hands again, and I for one am really excited about that and looking forward to the new season, and the new squad we'll have on display.

Let's enjoy watching things unfold, and lighten the mood again. A signing or kit announcement today might be just the tonic...

Of all the rumours going around Akinola is the one I’m probably the most interested in - mostly because he looks like what we’ve lacked in recent seasons in central midfield; that being genuine physicality and presence, likes a tackle - but combined with pace, athleticism and ability to drive forward.

All of the CM’s/CDM’s we’ve had during KR’s tenure have had some combination of those. But never all of them. Gorrin was defensive and liked a tackle, but never the most mobile, a little more lightweight with almost zero forward intent. I feel like I have to think back to Kashi for the last time we had some serious physical power in our central midfield.

Can accept that Akinola will be raw, untested at this level and would mostly likely come in and out of the team. But he really seems like he offers something different to the likes of Brannagan, McEachran, McGuane etc - and the kind of dynamic power we’ve been lacking in that area for years.

Completely different scenario tbh, there are plenty more opportunities from the bench , to be rested , or coming on as an impact player for generally attacking players especially where you can manage their playing time.
With a GK you just don't really have that option as you really don't want to be swapping keepers every other week or give them 20 minutes!

I’m getting really strong Lego vibes from him

I completely forgot Lego! God I miss him smashing people up with a big smile on his face in our midfield!

Although from the (admittedly small sample size of) clips I’ve seen, it feels like Akinola wants to run forwards in a slightly different and more aggressive/progressive manner than I can recall Ledson doing.
