Mentioned Troy Parrott at the end of last season as one I assume would be on Mannings list. Made the step up to the championship and hasn’t really worked out for him just the 3 goals in 29 games. Only concern would be can we convince him to drop back down. Also what Tottenham’s plan would be with him, he’s 21 now seems like it’s time for him to find a footballing home and settle down to really push on.

Can't see Spurs offering him a new contract when his expires next month, unless Ange thinks he can get something better out of him

Under contract until 2025
You'd imagine that at this age, and having not looked the part in the Championship, they might be prepared to cash in. Maybe a small fee, and large sell on secures him on a perm. That said, if he's on a large wage, and has 2 years on his contract, a loan might be the only financially viable option.

According to some reports online, he is currently on £15,000+ per week. Can see a loan being really the only option, unless Tottenham want an extremely small fee.

PNE fans did not like Parrott at all, has also shown little in the way of being the prolific goalscorer we need. Manning obviously knows him and has worked with him, but I wouldn't be particularly excited if there is any substance to this.

I like him but would much prefer Dane Scarlett of the Tottenham academy strikers but that seems unlikely following the year he had for our mates on the south coast

Still think Corey O'Keeffe from Forest Green should be one we look at.

For being in a team that was so defensively poor, he had surprisingly good defensive stats last season, as well as pretty good attacking stats too. He assisted over 22% of all of Forest Green's league goals and was in the top 12% in the league for successful crosses per 90'. Also in top 12% for successful dribbles.

Could be a very good option at RWB if we're looking at playing 5 at the back.
Agreed, someone I’d mentioned on the other thread, get up and down the pitch well as well as a great cross. Also takes a great free kick

I think we need to re-think the type of midfielder we need if we’re going 3-4-2-1. Someone with defensive qualities but also able to get box-to-box. I don’t think you really play with someone sat in front of a back 3. Seems a bit overkill.
I would love to see a Jay Matete or Panutche Camará type player in our midfield that takes us to a different level of quality

So, let's assume McEachran signs. I wondered in that case how many of the players that start our first league game in August are now in place. What do people think? And which positions do we think are not yet covered from that perspective?

Was just thinking about this
GK
New
CB
Thorniley
Moore
Long (who’s a better cb than rb in my opinion)
LWB
Garbutt
RWB
New
CM
Cam
Josh (replaced MM after 60 mins)
RW
Rodrigues (playing as an inverted winger for you Football Manager players
LW
Browne
ST
Eisa

That gives 7 newbies with 3 of them already in place

I think we'll see us signing wing backs to play LM's preferred back 5 formation, but I think there's already evidence in RR and JM that we will be adaptable and may use 4231 in games that suit.

I'm not expecting our signings to all fit perfectly into a 5-2-3, I think they'll suit 2/3 formations that will suit different games.

We will need a more physical, narrow formation playing Stevenage away in the muddy winter, and can then have a more expressive attacking wing back formation at home.

Assuming 3-4-2-1:

NEW

NEW
MOORE
THORNILEY

NEW
BRANNAGAN
NEW
NEW

RODRIGUES
NEW

NEW

So, yeah, nearly there!

We are quite imbalanced at the moment.
  • Too many goalkeepers (assuming we are looking at another one)
  • 6 into 3 places at centre half (assuming we play with wingbacks) - Moore, Negru, Thornley, Long, Brown, Findley
    • I have assumed Long and Brown are treated as CBs as they're certainly not wing backs
  • No proper wingbacks (needs to be addressed)...except Seddon, and maybe he gets a chance if not leaving
  • No proper Strikers, and assume LM will play 2 up top
    • GO is good, but still young
    • Not counting SB
    • Browne, maybe counts...
  • No idea where Murphy, Wildshut, and Goodrham fit in if we play wingbacks every week
All in all, its quite a significant undertaking to remodel this team. Sure some will need to leave to free up spaces, and wages.

3 days into the windows and possibly our third signing today.
If we carry on like that we'll have 80 new players when the window closes on 1 September.
How on earth will we remember all those names on top of the players we will retain? I sometimes forget my own name!
And it’s going to make me redundant……have we..

If we were seriously interested in Devlin, I wonder if that was alongside McEachran or instead of.

Looking at past Manning quotes, he loves McEachran and what he brings to a team.

Would indicate we are still in the market for a (development) midfielder.

The obvious unknown is how Smyth fits into the midfield. He doesn’t have a particular strength, equally no real weaknesses.
