So a wow from Jurgen Klopp one of the very best out there but said player gets a mainly negative response to potentially turning out for a 3rd tier club.

Our Manager, Recruitment team and Owners get the turd fan sprayed allover them on a Transfer thread when some other clubs sign relatively average players, yet a proper talent from one of the Top 3/4 clubs in Europe if not the world is still not thought good enough.

Robbo Out...... Sack the Board

Woodburn was really coming into his own by the time he got injured too. He only really played two months for us from memory, and got injured in October. Tyler Roberts did struggle, but I often think how well these young players settle in, is as a result of the environment and team they are coming into. When Roberts Joined, we had a really poor start to the season under MAPP in the 2016-17 season and were down by the relegation places in November. Woodburn also joined and we were quite poor until the Lincoln game at the end of September (2019-20 season).

Obviously you could say these players were part of it, but it is difficult as a youngster coming into a team that's in a bit of disarray. Hopefully we are a bit more settled now and it will be an environment they can thrive in.

I'm sure Woodburn and Roberts both look at their time with us positively, in that they have learned from it and gone on to better things. The problem is that we didn't benefit from it (apart from our reputation, I suppose). Young players I have no issue with, but they have to bring a tangible improvement to what we have...it has to be mutually beneficial.

Rothwell and Lundstrum also struggled at first but after 4/5 games you could see the talent come through, some players need a run of games to make that position their own. I feel Mc Guane will do really well but needs a good run in the same position for a number of games a bit like Bodin

Rothwell took ages - until pretty much the last 12 months of his contract - to come good. Amazing really, as he could well have been released by us at one point as he made little impact and noone was clear what his best position was.

McGuane is a great comparison. Its so obvious that he has all of the tools. He glides past players (like Rothwell), but his best position isn't clear, and neither is his role in the team. Like Woodburn, and like Holland, he really needs game time to establish himself. Exciting prospect if he can work it out.

Imo this has to be mcguane's breakthrough season otherwise I dunno where he will go next as you say the potential is there and hopefully he gets more of a run in the team but the jury is still out on him

Yes and players like Will Grigg and John Marquis were signed for that very reason - they were proven players at this level - and how did that work out?

No player is guaranteed to be a good signing or to hit the ground running. You said “Until we have seen how they get on, we won't know whether they turn out to be a good signing or not” - that could count for literally anyone, but one of a top clubs best prospects who has played for the first team is a good a chance as anyone.
Of course. Absolutely *any* player can be a failure at a club for any one of a myriad of reasons. BUT - I'd say it's much, much more likely that an established player with a successful track record at the level he is playing or higher (Taylor, Baldock etc from the present squad for example) is going to be a 'hit' than a young Prem player with limited experience of senior football and probably none of L1. Or do you not agree with that?

Yes this was my recollection too. Rothwell was suddenly very good, and then he left.

There's also the small matter of a playing style and system that will suit said player....

If they don't fit well, it may take them quite a while and quite a few weeks of training/playing the system to start to produce the goods.

Better players will of course be more adaptable, but that adaptability and resilience will often come at a premium.

It’s a squad game - it is all about balance. You need a blend of experience and the fearlessness of youth to go anywhere. Both equally valuable in my eyes.
