We were interested in NG-W last summer but the fee wasn’t reasonable enough for anybody to pay, let alone us. Portsmouth were another club scared off by the fee a year ago. His fee will be set by tribunal unless anybody trying to sign him agrees compensation with Wimbledon, and I reckon they fancy a tribunal to be quite kind to them on the value.

Can see him going to a Championship club, but if he stays in L1 he will likely be the best left back in the division. Put him in a good team with good players and he will shine.

Ver much doubt we would be interested, that he would be interested, or that we could afford him. However, he is an excellent footballer, and we probably have space to carry this kind of player for the value they could bring.
Might have calmed down a bit now. But has always been big trouble off the pitch. Very disruptive. Pretty much textbook in how to have fantastic talent but screw it up with an appalling attitude.

Nesta Guinness-Walker would be a fantastic signing, although wouldn't be surprised to see a Champ club snap him up.
Is he actually any good? Wimbledon fans haven’t commented on him going and seem for worried about losing AH.

I think our training facilities are very good for a L1 team, which would outweigh a s**t stadium.
Absolutely
Ours is a brand new state of the art facility the players spend every week day there
Once a fortnight they play at Grenoble Road, just because we have to spend time watching them from inadequate facilities, the players don’t the changing rooms are top notch and of course the playing surface is wonderful.
Add to that since the new year we had crowds on average of 10000 with a great atmosphere we travel to some decent grounds but others aren’t all that.
So on reflection the ground isn’t the thing putting players off, it will be money or another manager selling their club better than we do

So the chance to earn the same money , train at equally good facilities and play in a great Stadium where the actual glory of the job is wouldn't play any factor ...I'm pretty sure it does but of course just one factor .

Mate of mine is an AFCW fan. Said he was excellent until Christmas. Then appeared to have his head turned by transfer chat and was very poor second half of the season. Wasn't sorry to see him go.

If they're anything like me making any significant life decision they'd be getting out the old spreadsheets and compiling rankings of all the clubs interested based on a variety of metrics - re-numeration, geography, quality of stadium and training facilities, current/likely teammates, manager, potential for promotion, style of football, likelihood of game minutes.

Then, having assigned points relative to these attributes, I'd eliminate the also-rans before agreeing to visit and conduct further research on my top half dozen.

I would then go back to the spreadsheets and factor in my face-to-face research for a deeper analysis, before presenting my preferred 3 options to my agent in order for them to conduct negotiations, before any final assessment from me based on any upgrades that may have been achieved by said agent.

I am also really fun at parties.

Think that message from KR is for fans more than anything else. Probably aware of the growing concerns, targets missed etc. Fits with the club talking about ST sales today too.

Roughly translated - we're getting outgunned in the market, but we're trying our best.

Why the HELL would you tell teams you're looking to buy from you have increased your budget? Just say nothing and get players in FFS.
Reading the whole article I think KR is trying to manage everyone’s expectations. He seems to be saying we’ve increased our budget but still won’t be competing with the big clubs and need to be a bit more clever with how we do things. I suppose it explains the lack of movement so far. On the plus side he still sounds very positive about the upcoming season

Remuneration!

And you think you're fun at parties 🤣

How are Derby finding it so easy to sign players? Same for Shrewsbury, how come OUFC seem to find it so difficult?

A similar question about Shrewsbury was posted on the League 1 forum. This is a reply from a Shrews fan…

Wheres Shrews money coming from? no offence but you get 5-7k at home games, yet can afford 4k a week on O Brien and apparently outbid us for Marlon Pack, but being a Pompey boy wasn't about the money

We’ve always have had money in the bank club which fans of other clubs don’t always realise. Roland Wycherley has been chairman at the club since 1996 but there’s talk he might be stepping down in the next couple of seasons but wants to leave the club as a Championship club which is what he promised us Salop fans.

A lot of us didn’t want to leave Gay Meadow back in 2007, but we knew we had to in order to progress. Roland promised us that by us moving, he’ll get us in the Championship in the new stadium.

We’re one of the few clubs in the football league that not only own their own stadium and the land around it, but we turn a a profit virtually every single year as well as having zero debt. We’re extremely well run.

This season we’ve made no secret that we want to be pushing for promotion, as can be seen with the quality of signings and money we’re throwing (all of which we can afford unlike 99% of other clubs).

I have no idea how accurate this information is, but it might go some way to explaining why Shrewsbury are suddenly splashing the cash.
