Ex Player Jack Stevens

I completely disagree. I think too many judge Eastwood on a poor start to last season. He had performed well in his return to the side and his distribution was better. He remains prone to shots from distance but so has Stevens. Eastwood is far from average and a very decent back-up. @oxajh you say that there are 7 or 8 better back up keepers than Eastwood, but I bet you couldn't name one off the top of your head?

One EFL statistician has Stevens at the bottom of L1 GK rankings, which I find rather surprising:
Doesn't surprise me. Slow down to Bolton's first and in no-mans-land for the third. He seemed to half come out, made no attempt to cut out the cross and left a empty goal for Bakayoko hit. He's made a few outstanding reflex saves but also has looked shaky on crosses.

One thing I would say and that is Stevens distribution is not as accurate as Eastwood but it is quicker, or was.
I’ve noticed lately that he is taking much longer to get the ball away. Bolton closed us down but only because Jack was taking his time, if he had been more alert there were several instances when we could have got the ball away quickly.

I mean I can.. Ipswich have Walton.. probably best keeper in the league and their back up is the lad who was L2 GK of the year last season for Salford

You’re just saying surnames, no one has any idea if these guys are good.

This is a good example of the way some here are desperate to find a scapegoat for any setback.

Who am I scapegoating?

Stevens is a good keeper who’s having a tough time due to his illness.

Eastwood is a bang average L1 keeper that’s why he’s number 2.

Jack keeps shipping goals KR will recall Easty

Eastwood has been a fantastic servant to the club. He’s not quite the player he used to be but let’s not forget that up until recently we used to have a choice of Benji Buchel or Sam Slocombe..

Jack Stevens is a good goalkeeper. Absolutely no doubt there. He was exceptional last season but has not hit the same standards this season in either spell. Whether that is due to his illness, a loss of form, the defence being poorer, having fans back or something else, I don't know. Simon Eastwood is also a good goalkeeper, especially as back up. He was poor at the beginning of last season and is prone to shots from distance and getting down quickly. But he's far from being "bang average" and performed well when call upon this season. I don't understand the need to run him down to be honest.

Should we move on to Rotherham’s back up next @Scotchegg or is Eastwood still the messiah.

So Rotherham have used two different keepers this season - Vickers & Johnasson - and they're #s 1 & 7 in that list of statistical top performers in League One this year.

Sunderland's backup keeper is Lee Burge, who is pretty experienced at this level.

Wednesday's backup keeper, Joe Wildsmith, is supposed to be pretty decent as well.

None of which is to say that Eastwood is not a decent League One backup keeper - he certainly is, and GK is not an area where we lack appropriate depth.
But, equally, other League One teams have good keeper depth as well.

Exactly what I was saying. We rate a lot of our players with a big bias.

That bias goes both ways.

I call it realism.

Stevens last season one of the top L1 keepers. This season he’s had issues due to an illness.

Eastwood is bang average, you seem to think he’s the second coming of Petr Cech.

Am I being biased saying Brannagan & Kane are 2 of the best midfielders in the league?
