Ex Player Mickey Lewis RIP

Absolutely gutted. Did so much for the club in his many different roles and gave me so many fantastic memories growing up.

Life can be so cruel and a real shame that the fans can’t be in the ground giving him the send off he deserves. RIP Mad Dog 😔

Just awful news, had the pleasure to meet him a few times just an absolute gent and Oxford through and through. .....rip micky rest easy

Can't really believe this and echo everything said before - absolute legend at our club
If I am right scored his first goal for us away at Watford - remember being there and the look of joy on his face came flooding back this morning - think he then scored again in the very next game this time at home (after many many games having never scored) much to his and the team's surprise - the big joke at the time was that Garry Smart was next, thouh he never quite managed it
Utter legend and truly heart wrenching news

Mickey Lewis is one of the cult heroes of my football club. I started going up the Manor in 85, but my proper memories are of the late eighties and early nineties, when the club took its place in my heart. Mickey Lewis was at the centre of that, because he left nothing on the pitch, he gave everything for the club I supported and I loved that in a player. I volunteered to sell yellow ribbons when the club hit the proverbial and he was the first to sign my programme when I was in invited in to the changing room before the game to meet the players, a memory which is still one of my OUFC highlights. I’m gutted this morning that one of the brightest OUFC candles has gone out, for all that you gave and for the memories you created Mickey thank you x RIP

Oh no, gutted by this. Mickey was one of the LRT cult heroes, always gave everything for the team. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions, a top bloke. RIP Mad Dog 😔

Such sad news, 56 is hardly any age to go. Mickey was in the team for the first match I ever saw (Aston Villa Away League Cup 2nd leg October 1992). Back in the Conference days there was an Oxford United lottery and I won an afternoon at the training ground one Summer over at Kidlington (or Kirtlington I'm not sure). After watching the first team training, everyone was back at the clubhouse for lunch, and the players were in one half of the room and the manager and back room staff on a separate table, so I had lunch with Chris Wilder, Mickey Lewis, Kelvin Thomas, Les Robinson, Chrissy Allen. (Les and Chris were also in that same side vs Villa and I mentioned it, and Mickey remembered the score).

Over the last 12 hours I've read many tributes from the class of 2010, some had probably been on a pre-season to Scotland where Mickey was the minibus driver for half of the squad. There seems to be a special bond amongst that promotion team that perhaps isn't there from the 2016 players that got our next promotion.

1:40. The goal I will always remember Mickey for. Away to Derby, baking hot day, right in front of us. Scenes. Ghosted in at the back post, got so excited almost miss controlled the ball. What a day that was.

I’m truely shocked to hear this. I was so in to the cricket and didn’t realise until just now. Unbelievable, and 56 is no age!

Despite not being the best technically he actually gave his all everytime, and had oxford running in his blood.

Such a terrible shame, and condolences to his family at this time.

RIP Mad Dog.

Gutted.

Reading through the tributes the character of the mine shines through, and mirrors exactly what I felt after talking to him. A wonderful human being.

A black day for the OUFC family.

Cannot believe this, such sad news.

Still young, anyone know what happened?

God bless Micky

So young! So sad. Will always be a Yellows legend for me.

RIP

Some touching messages on the Derby Forum. Just shows how he was held in such high regard. Three points today to lighten the mood somewhat.
