Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

Why should KR come out and state the obvious to fans? We need a CB and a we need a winger. That’s glaringly obvious and has been the case for a while now; especially in terms of cover at CB. Surely he doesn’t have to spoon feed the obvious, just to appease a few impatient fans?

I think many, yourself included, seem to underestimate the amount of factors that come into play, when signing a player. I really don’t care if KR says he’s going to sign a player on the 1st of Jan and we sign someone on the 30th. If they are quality, they are quality. That’s football. Unfortunately, that’s how it works. It was the same before KR, and it will be the same after KR. If people choose to hang on to press comments in order to use them against him because his timeline doesn’t align with theirs, then fair enough. Do your thing. I’ll wait until the end of the window before I pass judgment. There is a long way to go..
Absolutely right!

I have to say I really hope we stick to our philosophy of buying players that can command a future fee, I’d much rather we signed a not quite the finished article 22 year old winger than a 28 year old one

It important to our survival that we have a constant crop of players ready to command a fee
He’s a free agent.

You need a mixture of players who are young and will develop and those who are experienced and ready right now, and who you aren’t planning to flip before they’ve even signed the contract. If we signed a Matty Taylor to counter every Rob Atkinson I like to think most people would consider that a positive thing?

MK Dons have just received a fee for a 34yo that they signed in the summer. If we were to sign a 28yo Championship player on an 18 month deal who proves that he is still up to in for the next few months, the summer fee would probably dwarf those that we have got from the likes of Lunny and Ledson.

I think the instances of this happening are largely outliers though

Outliers isn't really the right word. The reason MK were able to buy Keogh were non-footballing. The same can be said if we were to get Mendez-Laing. The opportunities are just rare.

Nathanial Mendez -Laing interested in signing him. Simple choice for him is League 2 or League 1 with one League 1 side possibly going to the Premiership. That’s a difficult decision.

Stories have it that Mendez-Laing was on the Colombian marching powder and failed a test, hence his sacking at Cardiff. That being said, having seen a number of Oxford players in club toilets in the past I'd say he'll fit right in.

Unless we bring in three over 21s, whether permanent or loan, then there was absolutely no point in sending Clare out. So surely, has to be three incoming.... eventually?
Depends - if KR saw no real role for him this season and he gets a lot of match time at Burton/we get some of his wages paid then it does actually make sense.
