Don’t want to big-up the opposition too much but thought young Hargreaves had a decent game.
I can only think of one game, the play-off final, where I came away thinking he contributed positively. Is Kelly that bad?

Of course, he hasn’t played a huge amount and the coaching team must think highly of him, but it’s time he started to show what he can do given he’s had more game time. The jury’s most definitely still out.

Gorrin is a greater physical presence, but will end up with loads of yellows and can be a bit rash! Kelly can be bullied, but also has a far greater range of passing and can bring others into play.
Under normal circumstances you would pick the right player for the right game, but with Gorrin injured we haven't had those opportunities.
The diamond against Sunderland left Kelly (and others) exposed, and we got ripped apart. Against Accrington we were able to get more control of the midfield, create space, and Kelly looked a much better player.
Both have a role to play, and I think there is far more to come from Kelly this season.
Unfortunately Thorne was physically broken when he got here and was never going to be able to stay fit. He will almost certainly be officially retired before the end of the season. The heart ruled the head on him and it was made clear before he signed that he would likely keep breaking down, because his body is shot. Very sad - good player whose career was absolutely ravaged by injuries that ground his entire body down over time.I know it didn’t work out but I felt Thorne was by far the better player when fit
When fit Gorrin should be the first name we put down down.
I definitely agree with the Aygei situation, I think a good League 2 loan where he plays 60-70 minutes every week (twice a week) with the fixture congestion due in the next two-three months would do wonders for him in the short term and us in the long term. He either needs to go to a team that need a striker and he can learn his trade in that position or someone similar to oxford that play with 433 and inside forwards rather than out and out wingers. Get him out on loan / off the wage budget until january and then reassess. Because ultimately Osei Yaw has trumped in that third spot as you say because he's getting on the score sheet and can play all three positions.I think a few weeks ago it was difficult to see where he would fit in. But he's had a great couple of games and should have done plenty to stay. Equally, I think Hall has proved himself more than good enough to stay. Agyei has done ok, but he will be behind Taylor, Winnall and Osei Yaw as a striker, and I'm not sure he does enough to start on the wing. If we can, I'd still keep him in the squad as someone who can make a difference off the bench, but not if that means missing out on someone like Marcus Browne.
I won't say he's bad, just not as good as he needs to be to justify being selected. And, given that he is a loanee, shouldn't his position with the club be one of being selected for as many games as possible? Is Kelly that bad?
It is really sad to see a player with the ability of Thorne struggling with fitness. On his day he has shown so much that would benefit any team. But, that is the world of professional sport and it's a harsh one. I would like to see him play some more if he can but not at the expense of results.Unfortunately Thorne was physically broken when he got here and was never going to be able to stay fit. He wasn't brought in to replace Gorrin, but to provide cover and give a different option. Unfortunately with Gorrin being injured he's been pushed into games he may not have expected to play, with a side who has struggled to find it's flow.I won't say he's bad, just not as good as he needs to be to justify being selected. I've seen some good stuff from Kelly, some intelligent play but lately that's been lacking.
I don't envy KR his choices today but, he's right, some players have not stepped up to the mark and will face moving on. Kelly might not be one but, I would have considered his place is up for grabs.

I have no doubts that Kelly will prove to be a good loan signing by the end of the season.
Highlights what a job it must be to select the team.He wasn't brought in to replace Gorrin, but to provide cover and give a different option. Unfortunately with Gorrin being injured he's been pushed into games he may not have expected to play, with a side who has struggled to find it's flow.

Yesterday's game means nothing. We had young players making their debut, players out of position, and others just getting game time. It was a glorified training game, but one that we drew/won and should enable us to progress in the competition.Highlights what a job it must be to select the team.
The injuries have shown up squad deficiencies and the need to bring in the right players but, obviously some existing will have to make way. Is having Kelly hanging around for a "right game" expedient? I would have wanted him to perform well as an impact player at the very least but even then he has not impressed. It could be that how he expects to play does not match how others around him are set up but that's a team problem and KR will have his views on that.
I didn't get to see the game yesterday, thanks to a huge power outage in the Faringdon area but, it did sound as though there were issues all over the park.
