Am I the only one that thinks we dont actually need to spend out on a new CB; assuming Dickie goes? (I actually think he'll stay)

Moore as the leading CB with Mous and Atkinson in rotation. We will also bring Jones closer to the first team but of course, we need to manage his developement carefully.

I've said this more than I care to admit but Atkinson is the real deal. You can say hes untested, inexperienced and blah blah blah but after having watched clips of him extensively, you cannot help but get excited about him. There is a reason he brought so much hype, along with him. Rave reviews from his own fans and supporters across the league.

He is EXACTLY the type of defender we would be looking to sign. Big, young, quick and great on the ball. A proper modern day CB that can play out from the back (and then some). Playing alongside Mous and Moore is only going to aid his development, further.

I will actually be really disappointed if we choose to spend big money on a CB when that is not an area we desperately need to strengthen.

We have all the talent we need, already at the club.

Garbutt will be one of maybe a dozen players we've spoken to, and Garbutt would have also spoke to a dozen or so clubs. It will all be about getting the right player on the right deal. As mentioned, Garbutt will have to massively rethink his wages, even more so now that the wage cap is in.

He's a player that worked hard here and had a decent attitude, which will help. But he'd have to be prepared to work hard at his defending as Robinson expects players to be able to cover a number of roles.

I'd say that him coming back is no more than 50/50 at the moment, but the longer he goes without a deal and the uncertainty of loan targets could increase the chances of this happening.

Why are Ipswich not signing him? He played a lot for them and scored a few

I'd guess that it all comes down to wages. I don't know the figures but our contributions towards his wages were pretty low and I suspect it was the same at Ipswich. Now, even with taking a big drop in wages, he is probably looking at more than either of us paid, and a 3 year deal. That changes peoples thinking, especially for a player who wouldn't be star player at this level.

I don't think they have a particularly strong budget this summer. Lambert complained about it last year, and they're considering moving on Norwood this summer.

Having just checked into them, they actually have a huge squad they need to trim first before thinking about incomings. Supposedly had 30 players used in the league last season. Not sure how many of them were U21/loans, but even so with the cap they might not be in the best position for someone like Garbutt right now.

Sounds very much like Swindon are close on signing James Norwood on loan from Ipswich.

Left winger (possibly Garbutt). What's left, a Striker and another Centre Halve in case Dickie leaves possibly?

Can we do that? Isn’t the squad capped at 22 players? From what I can make out players 21 or under don’t count unless they are loaned in, in which case they do. So if that is the case McGuane would count as a member of that squad. I think we’re at 21 currently if Osei Yaw isn’t included due to his age. So guess that means a more senior player would need to leave to make space for more than one addition. I could be wrong though.

Love the positivity Im not sure if Ive seen him play but I agree we need to develop talented youngsters and you cant do that by playing them in under 21 fixtures or sending them out on loan.

Don't want to lose anyone but in reality we probably need income from player sales this preseason. Expect Dickie to go but if it were a choice between Dickies and Sykes who would fans choose?

I think Sykes will have a big year for us (and fully expect him to sign an extension), but his current value is probably around £500-750k at best, and we'd be better keeping him. Dickie is attracting bids upwards of £2-3m and would cover a big chunk of our losses.

Agreed - sell Dickie to balance the books somewhat and keep Sykes as if he has a good season, not only will we benefit from that but his value will rise as well (as long as he signs an extension of course or that's a moot point).

And regarding Norward Sweetheart Bosnian are looking at him

Got to say, I'm really uninspired by the prospect of Garbutt returning. I was not a fan of him during his time here. Found him to be far too slow and lightweight. Yes, he has a lovely left foot and is good from deadball scenarios, but overall I would sum him up by saying he's not good enough at defending to be a defender and not good enough at attacking to be an attacker. When you factor in that he'll probably command a decent wage, I think signing him because he takes a good corner is not wise.

I've mentioned in previous posts that I still think we are missing raw pace. Would much prefer to see Whyte return (although realise that's unlikely).

What we need is Sykes to sign a new contract if only to get moe value for him, that’s if it’s true about Bournemouth
