International News Covid-19 .....

To ‘ramp up’: to endlessly talk about doing something at some point, always used in the future tense

As in How many ventilators are on order? We're working night and day to provide more and supply is ramping up just gorgeously.

Depends who you are asking as well. Individual Trusts have the autonomy to buy their own as well as central stock from the DoH. Same with PPE etc.

On the bright side our death figure stayed stable at 22 for 2 days and 58 folk confirmed as positive have been discharged.

Genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people based on any criteria, like age, as in if we let it run it's course a bundle more old people will die but it'll be more efficient in the end run. That was the policy I heard at the start.

EY makes a collection of divisive remarks.. including finger pointing at a political adversary then

Or do we stop pointing fingers at folk and muck in together to get it sorted?

Brilliant! People who use their critical faculties aren't mucking in. Just f*****g great post.

Fair play to the people in power. They've managed to convince millions that basic oversight by, and accountability to society - one of the most, if not the most fundamental check and balance on a functioning democracy - is unseemly and inappropriate. Who watches the watchmen? f*****g nobody, apparently. It's considered rude and unhelpful.

Pass the paprika and manchego scones, would you.

'spoof' doing the rounds , but (IMO) more than a degree of truth contained within ....

Ohhh selective quoting AND rude words..... get you cup cake.

You can analyse "what went wrong" after the event, stopping and doing that mid way through the first half isn`t the best of timing really.

Amazing how many experts situations like this bring out, primarily standing on the sidelines shouting complete fluff like "genocide" .

I/we/the NHS go to work to fix people and save their lives. It is not pretty, it is not perfect ........but the vast majority of the time when it really matters it works.

I`m sure all these side line experts are stepping to the fore and volunteering .......................... or are they just blowing out of their arses on Twatter?

Stopping the 'herd immunity' weirdness has probably saved numerous lives. Were the government wrong to analyse that? Of course, opting out of testing and ventilators for a month probably will have killed more despite the magnificence of our ramping up were the government wrong to start?

I'm volunteering btw. Have been for a fortnight.

Good luck, be lucky.

Genuine question:
Have there been any reports so far, of hospital deaths caused directly by those same hospitals not having the ventilators needed.

How are the government not being held to account here? I don't know what you're reading/watching, but I've seen lots of criticism and questioning of their actions in all this. Not least every day in the Downing Street briefings, when they are being asked some fairly probing questions.

FWIW, I despise Johnson and his cronies, but I don't think it's helpful to claim that they're not being taken to task.

I can’t see what the twerp Corbyn wouldn’t have done better,
Them when it’s all over with the economy being hit big time because of what the government are doing to help people keep the in work if redundant get them Universal credit from day one, sacking off the NHS 13.4 billion debt and other financial help will hit the economy but that is a small price to pay......but no doubt labour and the libdems will blame the Tories for the economic mess, which by the way will be a world economic debt.

The big lie is the name of a propaganda technique, originally coined by Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf, and denotes where a known falsehood is stated and repeated and treated as if it is self-evidently true, in hopes of swaying the course of an argument in a direction that takes the big lie for granted rather than critically questioning it or ignoring it.

The great masses of the people... will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one.

Labour have been, once again, worse than useless. Hardly anything from them at all. The sooner Corbyn is assigned to the dustbin of history, the better.

It’s clear to see that this thread is following the pattern of the Brexit thread.
Those posters with a leaning to the “red” side will only post eloquently written negatives based on there political bias and believe absolutely nothing of what the “blue” ruling party have to say.
And by default disbelieve anything that the Chief Medical/Scientific Officers have to say.
