Home Match Day Thread +++ 29/02/20 OUFC V Southend Utd +++

Just in no signal at the ground to comment that’s the worse performance from Oxford this season, don’t think anyone stood out as MOM but, we won and did we do it ugly, yes we did and 3 points and I will take that all day but please not to often.
We allowed them a bit to much space didn’t close them down quick enough, that weren’t always in our faces but we received the ball and then they would come in from nowhere and take the ball when a simple pass would have sufficed. Bit Marcus Browne had his shot blocked scarpered 20 yards or so took the ball from their player a simple pass followed by and other good pass and Matty Taylor spin and dig that one out. 17 for the season so far with Henry on 13.

foot note don’t okay like that again I have no finger nails left.

?Super, super Mat, Super. Super Mat. Super, super Mat, Super MattyTaylor. ?

Sometimes I wonder.... This is a conversation I heard coming down the stairs from the SSU(E) tonight:

“Oi drove 84 miles to watch that rubbish? Awe fool. I’ll tell you one fing - We need to get rid of that number 4, (yes, he really said that) where’d e come from? eez so slow.. Oi don’t fink Oil bovver agin...”

well, friend, I don’t think you should bother again, either.

At this time of the season it is all about results. February been a great month and we will be even stronger going forward with Woodburn returning , Taylor on fire, a great defence and Henry the best penalty taker in the league.
exciting times ahead for us all.

Well we made hard work of that!

Great result though, massive 3 points!
Where would we be without Henry and Taylor?

Well done Robbo and the lads!

Just home, fantastic result, poor performance. The sign of a good team is to ground out a result as today. Taylor is immense, but listening to his interview, backs up a few other things, and a higher table championship side is where will be next season, or a Portsmouth/Sunderland should they go up, if he had a choice.
Brown shows what else he has added to his game since last season, and would be a wonderful permanent acquisition.

Browne has improved so much. His tenacity to chase back and win the ball, then cross for Matt, won us the game. Well done young man.

Had a poor 1st half, should have played it simple at times rather than the showboating which was good the first couple of touches, but invariably came to nothing when better options were on.

He was better 2nd half, especially chasing back to win the ball.

He’s such an ‘in the head player’. If only we could get his head right for 90+ mins he’d be a much better player, hence why it’s probably not worked out for him at Middlesbrough.

Thought Sykesy was class today
He is neat, tidy, skilful and is working hard. I still think given he is an attack minded player who has a lot of quality, he needs to improve his end product both in creating chances for others and scoring.

Browne just needs to been shown a bit of love

Could be a job for @RyanioBirdio if hes not too preoccupied with super Matty ? ;)

We really were not quite running on all cylinders today. Despite their lowly position, I think that sarfend, while pretty impotent in front of goal, were hard to break down and with all the mis-timed passes and second ball sloppiness from us they truly looked to have secured an unlikely, but well earned point.
The blustery conditions were once again a factor but despite that and the pitch apparently being awkward, we looked disjointed. A little game worn perhaps?
Either way, when you have an absolute killer in the box you are always in with a chance and so it proved.
A snakebite from mr Taylor put them to sleep.
One or Two things for me did stand out, Browne does such great work at times, he has such great control and can beat a man with ease, his work rate and will to win today was superb, I just wish that he would pass it earlier sometimes.
I thought that Forde struggled today, he is finding his way back from injury and it is understandable that he will have dips, today was one of them. He wasn’t alone though.
To win when you ain’t right on it is a good sign and I am happy to celebrate 3 vital points.
Even I am having Stirrings for matty Taylor!?

I’m not sure Thorne was playing, if you mean Forde he had an absolute mare! Kept giving the ball away and seemed to lose all his confidence. Odd as he was good last time.

Thorne was invisible today, may as well not have been in the pitch... oh?.

Definitely wasn't at the races today performance wise, apart from Taylors goal, the Pen incident and Agyei miss there wasn't nothing to get excited over. The ref while gave the Pen was really poor, not letting the game flow, getting decisions the wrong way all the time. Glad we got through and gained the 3 points, hopefully after the 2 days rest they have they will come out next Saturday with the same urgency, playing as a team, pretty football we have seen in the previous 2 home games.
