General Jan transfer window

The problem though Sarge is the board are only going to say things along the lines of nothing has changed for them and the aim is still promotion and we have decent players and manager, we tried hard to get players in etc etc none of which achieves anything because as fans we either decide to run with those words or think opposite..For some reason it all reminds me of the first few days/weeks of the takeover and we are as much in the dark now as back then.
When your manager who is normal so positive tells us 24 hours before a window closes that we are unlikely to do anything having let 2 assets go that sets alarm bells ringing

I know we are in a minority but when the manager says to the board it's time for ambition and show we are a big club and the board failed to deliver no rhetoric or spin from the board today will alter that opinion.
I have to say that the apparent sudden change in strategy regarding recruitment, so late in the window, closely following on from Zaki’s comments pouring water on stadium developments last week do concern me a little bit..

Couldn't agree more, he has known for two years that we need a striker, fair play he got Matt Taylor but he is clearly one of those who has injury problems and KR seems to prefer the ineffective Mackie anyway. For those who love Mackie's "shithousery" sorry but I prefer someone in the box who can put the ball in the net whether it comes of there knee, backside, or back of the head it doesn't matter but you ain't gonna score when you trying to wind someone up on the touch line.
I had started to take to KR in recent months as he seemed to building a decent team playing nice football and at last got his tactics right but he has gone back to Biily BS mode kidding everyone that he was in for some decent players and didn't need to sell.
Hopefully we will be proved wrong and the play-offs are still possible but we are not making it easy and the "big boys" (apart from Wycombe) are gathering at the top of the table.
I can’t see how this is KR’s fault?. The way I read it, is he is probably as surprised as any of us about what happened over the last few days.

it’s the Board that are to blame not Karl.

Youll all be glad to know that i fished my season ticket from the bin this morning. Damn Birthday beers and Baileys! Still pretty fuming regarding these last couple of days however.

Well done. Lets all face this together. Read Horsemans post above. The idiotic kind of replies you have recieved had gone away, with fans seeming United until the last day or so.
FFS we all support the same team, and today Blackpool are the enemy not fellow fans.
Some of these posters would never have survived in the London Road in the old days, the way they are abusing fellow fans. You had to stick together especially in the 1970's.

Forget yesterday, today we are one. We'll win today, then next week we'll to Peterborough where we always do well.

I wonder if Shandon Baptiste will see Hull's comedy first goal at home to Brentford today, realise the error of his ways and come crawling back to us, tail between his legs...?

Given Brentford are still 2-1 up, I'm tipping probably not...

Still - funny goal!

Josh Clarke would be a good signing at this stage.
Maybe we won’t/can’t pay his wages? For whatever reason the last few days appear to have been all about what Tiger can claw back in. Until we hear or see any evidence to the contrary we can only guess why that would be.

Edit: Oops sorry leftsideboy, I keep forgetting that questioning whats going on at the football club is banned from this discussion forum. Bedwetters and all that..

Summary of my thoughts:
1. Karl asked the board to act big. Not sure this window felt like that.

2. Karl is clearly as disappointed as Kip given he said if one more player went he’d resign. For those inferring we shouldn’t be disappointed then you may want to mention this to the man that is the beating heart of the club.

3. Fosu is clearly a mercenary: the only way we got him here was that out clause and he was ready to go three months ago and gave up playing for us once he knew a deal was incoming “don’t get injured before January Tariq and we are all good”. I’d rather he didn’t patronize us with tweets and turning up today. EC Yellows comment about the tweet and my other source make him seem a grade A t**t.

4. The alleged price for Baptiste, for a player so highly lauded by many clubs and for a club that “doesn’t need to sell”, in a market where so much money is swilling around, is risible.

5. we’ve just made the quarter finals of the league cup with a few full houses on the way. We’ve made the fa cup 4th round with 52000 sell out, replay, tv money and round progression money. We are swimming in unbudgeted cash. We’ve bought in a few million in fees and yet our activity was a few loans (not assets - stop gaps) and a conference center back (looks a good buy btw)

6. we have a striker that can’t play more than 50% and another that has two goals in 30 games with a couple assists. We’ve never had a better chance in 20 years to make the championship, we’ve known about this problem for months and yet we haven’t resolved it in a month long window. Ditto the right back situation which our stats show was the source of our goals. If we miss out on our primary target I’d expect other options to be targeted.

7. Agree with others that if the three loans had come in yesterday it would have softened the blow but in a slightly disingenuous way. They leave us in three months. As most likely will Dickie and Brannagan. Write the squad down on paper at that point and it feels a little sad. Sure new players will come in but it’s such a brilliant squad and better to strike whilst the iron is hot

We have risen to the automatics. We have seen that grasp slump away a little.

It’s a lovely problem to have to have been top and be in the running. The club have built a model and we need to accept that model. But the model doesn’t work if you don’t keep investing properly nor does it work if critical positions don’t get filled and the team languish in mid table. People want to join a club with the words success and potential emblazoned on the front door.

So in summary it’s not a disaster. We don’t need to throw our toys out of the pram because the club is in a good position, but equally it’s ok for fans to be very disappointed by what feels a misjudged window and missed opportunity. Shades of grey folks.

Just wondered if there was a club in the land that openly said we’ll sell any player cos we need to balance the books?
I also wonder how many other clubs publicly stated “we won’t sell any player at any price“ just to get other clubs interested. The Football merry go round continues.......
It’s just the same when a player joins( Its a massive club / sleeping giant, I met the gaffer had a look around and new this was the right place for me. The club is going places blah blah blah,,,,,)

Maybe he is just no better than what we already have........

Long and Ruffels can't play every game. So even if he's not as good, someone who's been on Brentford's books for years and played plenty of Championship games it likely to be a better full back than Hanson or Forde.

Am I just old fashioned or is that just disgraceful behaviour?
KR couldn't have backed him more and he pushes fof a move what after being here 3 months or so?
Best of luck Shandon, but I reckon Fosu will struggle to get into a decent Champiobship team
Yes it's clear Fosu used us in a way. It came through a couple of times in his R/Ox interviews. Add in the low trigger clause and the length of time it took to sign, so it looks that way.
Just been watching Brentford on sky and I'm struggling to see where either of them will get a regular game.

Fair enough for the most part, however, can everyone please please please stop going on about Mackie "shithousery" as a reason for him being here, the bloke is next to useless in all honestly but leads the line for a supposed promotion contender.
I have seen many pretty useless players Mackie is far from useless. As a player that plays up top he has been highly effective this season. How many goals have we scored this season?

I’m a better full back than Hanson, and I’ve never played full back in my life.

great question Jerome ... vice chairman squirming & not answering what he was asked

and another good Q too, with an evasive response, not an answer

bit of a snake is the vice chairman IMO ... slithering away from answering questions asked- wish Jerome would push n probe him a bit more though
