General Jan transfer window

um so it's ok spending this money on players that are 99% unlikely to ever join permanently and who we just develop/get fit for their parent club or ready to join another suddenly rather than building a squad for once?

if you get your squad right in the summer and build with the odd tinker then you wouldn't be so reliant on Loans which sadly we are

The loan system is there but it does not have to be the be all and end all every window
Browne - Would more than likely stay if we went up.
Taylor - Same as above.
Kelly - I think there is a chance of him staying as well.
Thorne - Loan turned signing.
Woodburn - Likely to return next year.

We utilise the loan system better than anyone in our division, due to the relationships we have with teams in the higher divisions. I dont think anyone in our league has been able to attract the quality of loanees that we have...

Scotchers is shifting position from “We’re definitely getting in two/three more new players” to “It’s been a good window.” ! Very subtle. No: up until today it has been disappointing because we have failed to add to two essential positions. Yes; the early recruitments were promising, but since then.....? I’ll retract this if a striker is in by the weekend. But Scotch comments suggest otherwise.

100%. So far what investment have the board put into the squad this window to really push for promotion?
Hopefully they will walk the walk before Friday, or they will have missed a massive opportunity, and their promises may start to look hollow.

The loan system though also works the opposite way, if you dont develop your own squad organically with your own permanent squad. Every year 3, 4, 5 key players go back to their parent clubs and its back to the drawing board.
KR seems to have no choice currently if he wants to improve his squad other than to use loans. The board have got to be seen to be backing, so far this window they don't seem to be doing so.

Laughable, there is a line between investing and being sensible with your money.

We have a core of assets (that Pep totally tore apart) in Dickie, Brannagan, Baptiste...12 to 18 months it will be Moore also. We are developing our own players, hense the squad is full of ~15million worth of talent that is ours...supplemented by quality loans.

We don't have the finances to secure every player on permanents...I think our recruitment team has adequately shown that they have the ability to acquire and develop talent.

To add to this, January is a tough time to add permanent signings - a majority of deals are loans

I disagree with everything you have just said. The board havent backed KR? ? Loans or not, we have some of the best players in this league and if you can use the loan system to it's full potential, why wouldn't you!? Or shall we be like Peterborough, spending millions and going nowhere? They are a few bad seasons from ending up like Bolton or Bury. Do you want that?

We are in a period of financial transition and if you are to make a club sustainable, you have to spend wisely. I honestly cannot believe people are suggesting the board arent backing KR.

Thorne
Woodburn
Browne
Holland
Taylor
Kelly

They would walk into any team in this league and that's not enough? Not to mention the players we already have...

This forum is great but my God we are shortsighted at times. Rewind 12 months and see what we were up against. Get some perspective...

So the loss of Cadden and Robbie Hall but the addition of Holland, Browne and Kelly has turned us from automatic promotion candidates (many were claiming this, not aimed at you specifically) to only a good chance of play offs if we are extremely lucky with injuries/suspensions/form? Rightio!

If that is the case then that is all we were anyway as we have added to the squad overall and this is a squad that has been hit badly by injuries.

The run of 2 points from 4 games prob has a fair bit to do with it

I reckon a lot is going on "behind the scenes" & the next 24 hours will be very interesting indeed. Of course the board are backing Karl - they just might have told him to keep it 'zipped' until tomorrow night.

As a oufc board point of view does it make good sense to get promoted this season with reasonable outlay? With a 80% risk perhaps of coming back down? We would be lucky with our turnover to stay up?

There it goes again our assets ready to sell for an "undesclosed" So you are ready to sell these championship quality players to a team in the very league we aspire to reach, why can we or the players concerned not see there is a bright future and we can all have chance to achieve "Together" ?

it will be total madness to allow any players to go when we are in with the best chance of promotion we are likely to see for years

MellowYellow, for your own mental health, i'd suggest you chill out, have a beer, and stop obsessing about how much you feel the board should be spending.

I don't think Shosho has suggested selling players in January, have they? Also, we are a selling club as our other income doesn't cover our costs.

We are a stepping stone, we have little ability to keep players if clubs from higher come in for them. The best we can do is ensure we get the 'right' price for them. Without trading we have very little chance of attracting the next Dickie or Brannagan.

As yet, we don't look to be selling this January, that could of course change. The reality is that we have a club that loses hundreds of thousands each year, we can't continue taking big financial hits.

I don't want players to leave, I would love for them to stay but we need a bit of realism around the players we have and why they are here.

If we get promotion then we have a good chance of holding on to them, if we remain in league 1 we will faced with a tough task of them staying in the summer.

If nothing else happens this window, we've had a very good january. Coming into the month everyones concern was around keeping players and seeing if we can add a few. As it stands, noone has left and we have added championship level loans...I think that is a pretty positive month

It is quite odd how at the beginning of the month people felt we could win the league, now people are questioning whether we'd wantbto go up anyway.

From a personal perspective, i actually think well see a deadline day departure, then a couple of signings, followed by Scotchers bizarrely insisting its just a coincidence.

Connor McAleny has joined Shrewsbury on loan from Fleetwood. Apparantly he's 27 how and has only scored 9 in 70 games for them! Maybe we did well to miss out on him afterall...
