Jonte Smith was a failure, no doubt (only one sub appearance).

This is the only circumstance that I can see us going for him i.e. as a bit of a cheap-low-risk-hit-and-hope.

Looking at the Lg table we're competing with half the Division for promotion!
 
I can't remember which thread someone put this in over the weekend, but I think it summed it up perfectly: essentially, the reason we're having difficulty signing players is because we don't know what league we will be in next year. A Championship-level player, who we would want to sign, probably wouldn't come to us in case we don't get promoted, and a L1 level player, who WOULD want to sign for us, would be a wasted wage in the league above should we get promoted, where cash will already be tight enough as it is, considering the budgets we would be competing with in that division. I think it really is that simple. Loans work out best for all parties involved in our position, and frankly, I'm glad we're not being totally fiscally irresponsible and throwing money we can't afford at gambling on promotion. Even with the cup runs, I would imagine we're sailing pretty close to the wind financially as it is.
 
Can I put an outlandish, never-before-mentioned, absolutely random name in the mix.
I only know about him from his couple of years in Berlin, where all of a sudden he couldn't stop scoring in his second season.
Collin Quaner, now (still) of Huddersfield Town.
Had injury problems, but knows where the goal is. A tall player so a good foil for our other options. Also plays off the shoulder well too and has a decent amount of pace.
Scored 4 in 10 at an ultimately fruitless attempt to keep Ipswich up last year in the Championship, always difficult to score goals at teams down the bottom. Ipswich fans were very complimentary.
On big wages still after helping Huddersfield up to the Prem, but looking for a (loan) move in the window.

Cadden was a big part of how we played earlier on in the season, neither Long or Hanson have the attacking ability to cause teams problems. Had Ruffs on the other side been a more offensive outlet for us I would've said that'd be ok, but it seems like we want to play a system where our fullbacks get forward and yet we don't seem to have anyone in the club who can do that.

Brannagan's injury has come at the right time in a way, has been off the boil since returning to the XI. Surprised that we've heard nothing about Dickie, but I'm sure there will be clubs swirling come the summer.

as oppossed to a Premiership U23 striker that we actuall paid for who is not getting any "Worthwhile" game time
