Away Match Day Thread +++ L1 29/12/2019 AFC Wimbledon v OUFC +++

’After a very productive festive period, Oxford United broke into the automatic promotion places with a gritty 2-1 win away at Wimbledon. They remained in the top two positions for the remainder of the season, ultimately winning the league at a canter with three games to spare as the challenging group fell away’

I can dream can’t I..?!

You forgot the fa cup semi final at Wembley where we lost against man City. ?

Yeah very disappointing.. I expected far better considering it was our third attempt at beating them in just over a year..

That was a very hard fought win. I thought Wimbledon are a good strong side
They pressed us well and got crosses in quickly. We had to dig deep to win that. Hall missed his opportunity to shine, the game seemed to pass him bye. He had a a couple of fluffed attempts at goal i suppose. Mackie again runs his nuts off but never seems to be in the right position to score. Our defence was immense with bodies put on the line. Baptiste added the extra class to get 3pts. Thought we should have had 2 pens. The foul on baptiste and a off the ball foul 1st half. Ref gave us very little. Booked brannagan for going for the ball and not seeing the player and let all their tactical fouls go.

What a festive period this has been. I come away from the mk match all depressed as it was one of the worst performances and games I have witnessed in 17 years of following us.
Wow.
We were at home to Tamworth 10 years ago.
Presumably you didnt see many games when Patterson, Pep and even CW were in charge if that was one of the worst you have seen?
We were very poor but I could probably come up with 50 worst performances.

The performance was shite from both teams, the atmosphere was poor, the ground was cold and soulless,

I can't think of any I've attended that was worse. Even the conference days it was always a new ground to me and there was plenty of drinking, socialising before and after the game. Mk felt to much commercial, reminded me when Wembley hosts the American football. I won't be going back there again in a rush.

Yes, defo not one of the worst, but IMO one of the most disappointing games I've seen in 55 years of watching OUFC, given the relative positions of the teams. Anyway, that's behind us, now basking in the warm glow of today's VICTORY!

Great result and with Henry, Mous, Fosu and Taylor (barring a few minutes) getting a game off to rest their legs you'd imagine 2 or 3 of those will start at Doncaster so should be nice and fresh, today tipped me over the edge and got myself a ticket for Donny so cannot wait now

Ah if you are talking match day experience I get it.
You said performance and there were loads of far worse performances in the Conference.
Agree re the experience at MK which is awful

Mmm. I remember well the Conference. Not just the Tonbridge Angels, but lots of defeats to teams with crowds of 500 to 1000 beating us.
As I said I could probably come up with many many worse performances ( and MK put a little of perspective today).
But yes things are very good at the moment.

Great result today, at a pokey little place. Tough place to go and get a result, and with lots of changes to the starting line up we shone through and got ourselves another valuable 3 points.

One word (Promotion)
One word (Champions)

Just what the Loungers needed! Gave both of us an opportunity to forget our heavy colds/chest infection and enjoy a fine winning result. Baptiste was excellent today and worked hard to create, Sykes was ever keen to get into a shooting or crossing position and Dickie was the Dickster! Mackie absolutely infuriated the AFC defence and caused them to leave gaps all over the place. Sam Long showed again that he is up to the mark and Gorrin and Brannagan ran the midfield with all the others contributing. If I had any doubts then, sadly, it would have to be Rob Hall. He showed enthusiasm but not the application, having said that, his replacement, Fosu, has still got to accept that you can't beat everyone and sometimes it's better to pass.

As to the ground, well, so many struggled to see the game from the abysmal terracing, will be good not having to go back there again. Good for the Loungers as it is only a 45 minute drive back down the A3 to get home!

Long and Eric had great games, whilst Hall missed possibly his last chance to impress to avoid going out on loan. Archer made a fantastic save in the second half. The 5 changes showed that we have a second string, that can still beat teams that can be a danger.

As for Cadden, not sure we've heard the full story, but someone asked KR outright if there was any chance of staying, just as the second half kicked off, and he replied no. Now whether he would tell fans so openly what is going on is doubtful, but the way Long was encouraged to go forward, and did admirably, he can step in until a replacement is found for Cadden, if one is needed.

We move onto Doncaster, which sees KR with a dilemma, to bring back the rested or keep with the team that won today.
Would love to think we could take 1000 there, being a bank holiday, but nearer 700 is more realistic.

Not being harsh on Hall but I think that was his last game in an Oxford shirt. He is not good enough sorry, I reckon he will be loaned out to league 2 quite sharpish.

I think that KR will play the best side v Doncaster.
Great to see the back ups do so well, but Henry, Taylor, Fosu will start I reckon
