Gavin Whyte

I'm sure a lot of s**t will continue to be fired my way after I dismissed ideas of a deal on Tuesday. So here's everything as I understand it. On Tuesday rumours started circulating early evening that Cardiff had made a bid. Robinson said he hadn't heard anything and would have expected Warnock to have spoken to him directly. Around the same time I spoke with Gavin who also stated that he'd heard nothing, hadn't spoken to any other clubs and wasn't expecting to move. There's no reason to disbelieve either accounts at that time. HOWEVER, a formal offer did come in on Wednesday and Whyte was allowed to talk as the general understanding is that the club won't stand in the way of a move if initial valuations are met. I do not know the fee but I am lead to believe that it is above £2m. Whyte has been offered a very good deal, one that goes way beyond our pay structure and it is assumed that the deal will go through on Monday.

In addition, the situation with Browne was one where we had met West Hams valuation and offered a deal at the very top of our pay structure with a big signing on fee. Browne was very happy and was expected to sign by today. HOWEVER, Middlesborough have come in and offered an extra year to us, some bonus deals based on promotion etc and the chance to play in the Championship.

So at the time I commented on both, I fully believed the information to be accurate and had high hopes of keeping Whyte and adding Browne, with both expected to play tomorrow. That situation has changed and I'll hold my hands up to being wrong.

If people want to have a dig at me for that then crack on. But I'd rather hope for the best and be disappointed than predict the worst and jump around in triumph when things don't work out.
It’s not your fault Scotchegg so no need to explain. You're the perpetual ray of sunshine, I certainly won’t knock that. I’m beginning to get the feeling we’re going to need people like you in the next few months.

I don’t think anyone cares about who said what. You wrote what you believed to be true, end of.

I do think that the owner’s strategy and claims have been shown to be worthless. Optimist you maybe, but surely you must be fearful of our situation and the constant disappointments?

If you’re not, then I don’t then I think we can swap optimist to delusional.

Of course I'm concerned that we were days away from having both Whyte and Browne here and now it looks likely we'll have neither. However, the one comfort I have is that these deals have both been concluded very quickly and therefore there is no reason why we can't also complete business quickly ourselves.

I know it's far from ideal, but we can keep Sam Long at right back and put Cadden further forward, or put Mark Sykes on the right, and still focus on bringing in a quality centre back and striker before the season starts. Findlay and Ched Evans could be back on the table, and if so I would hope that they could be in by early next week. We could then focus on getting the long term replacement for Whyte and any other shortfalls.

As I've said, this isn't what anyone would have wanted but it's how we move on from this that matters.

So the best we can hope for is that our recruitment team can, in the next week, pull off what they have failed to do in the last 8-20 weeks (if you count what they should have been doing before the window opened) and at least double the number of first team players they have managed to bring in over the course of the summer.

Christ...you would have to be some optimist.

i'm going to see my horse at the stables this week, there's a load of s**t there too

That did make me chuckle. I hope you see the irony in that statement ?

Amazing.

please tell why we are suddenly going to get deals over the line? unless of course whyte going was already known upstairs and replacements found and agreed already which would then make the recent rhetoric from the club bullshi*

Last week they told Robinson to go out and sign Marcus Browne "at any cost", now they're snapping Cardiff's hand off for a profit of £1.5m maybe? And we're led to believe there was no approach for Whyte at the point they told Robbo to splash the cash on Browne. Something doesn't add up, it makes no sense.

Scotchers : We’re flying by the seat of our pants though as we patently can’t seem to get our incoming deals done.
There are real risks here in losing Whyte next week.

It seems that we are still holding out for Evans on a permanent basis from Sheffield U. A loan would have been easier
presumably. Findlay from Kilmarnock seems a pipe dream though but he looks a player.

Crusaders have a 'significant' sell on clause for Whyte so OUFC wont see much from £1.5m

If the club tells him it's fine, it must be fine! I'm sure they have absolutely no idea he posts his positivity on the forum relentlessly :censored: Good PR tool!

Because players and other clubs will want to see business done quickly, we have a few more quid in the bank and we obviously need players!!

We will see what happens in the next 48 hours!!! ?

Don't forget Sarge it's very easy to top up the squad from those pennies, they'll be forming an orderly line as we speak...in fact there will be so many of them that we'll need to build a fourth stand so they all have a seat whilst they wait to sign on the dotted line.

It could be 48 days since we last signed a player at this rate. Having a few extra quid could mean deals get protracted
as players demand more money and agents get greedy.
