These ‘we’re aiming too high’ comments are weird. It’s not as if we were throwing our hat in the ring at Atletico when we heard Griezzman was available! Ched Evans was in a team that finished literally one point and one place above us last season, so is very much our level, and Marcus Browne by all accounts was on the cusp of being a done deal. I’m as frustrated as the next guy with how this window has gone, and I do suspect that there must be something up behind the scenes (as RyanioBirdio’s excellent posts have suggested). But I can’t help that think that posters claiming that they would be happy with us wasting wages on weaker players so long as we got bodies in the building are being a bit disingenuous.
Even if nothing changes before Sunderland we are likely to go into that game with
Eastwood
Cadden Dickie Mous Ruffels
Gorrin Brannagan
Whyte Henry Fosu
Mackie
Subs
Stevens Long Jones Hall Sykes Hanson Napa
Is that really as weak as some are suggesting? Do people really think that we won't add other players even if after the season starts?
For the posters asking for us to give up on top targets and just fill the positions with average players:
Who would you suggest we sign to fill the squad?

I can't help but think the club know your such a frequent, enthusiastic poster on this forum they peddle stuff to you knowing exactly where it's going to end up. This post alone could be Tigers programme notes word for word!I know a couple of people who work in and around the club. Sometimes I hear things directly, like when the players were allegedly not paid and I quickly had it confirmed that there really wasn't a problem. Sometimes I hear things less directly, like the deal with Cadden had been agreed weeks ago but the process was very complex. And sometimes I hear things that are no more than a general overview, like the club working really hard to bring players of a very high standard in.
But when these views are posted, most demand evidence, or say that it is irrelevant until the player actually signs. Of course we all want to see people through the door, and deals that look on the cards can fall away, but does anyone truly believe that the club are not working night and day to put this right?
Marcus Browne was here on Tuesday to look at a deal. West Ham were fully aware and a fee had been agreed. However, if as it looks likely, a Championship club comes in offering more than sadly we have to accept defeat. But not to chase these players in the first place would be ridiculous.
I know that we have tabled a number of bids which are way above what many would expect. I know that these show that money is available, and that if they come off then it will show our real intent for this season. I know that Robinson and the board are working really hard, and that there are no issues that are fundamentally wrong with our recruitment process as some suggest.
But all of that aside, I'm still as frustrated as everyone that we haven't yet put all of this together to bring these players in. However, with everything I know from behind the scenes I am a little more hopefully than most that this will all come together and will judge the end product rather than dismissing everything on a daily basis.
You crack on in your concerned train, I'm sure it might be standing room only. But I'm sticking to the positive bus, even if it gets a little lonely at times, it's still a far better ride!
Easy to say we matched the offer and did everything we could after weve been blown out yet again.Or maybe it’s a good soundbite to say we matched the offer!
If we are able to match the wages offer by boro then the lack of players coming in is a mystery to me !

It enhances nothing.
The Board seem to have backed KR to pay for Fosu, put in a number of bids for players ( most clubs in L1 wont pay money on Transfer fees like we seem to)
It seems clear that we are going for good players who have options. As somebody said yesterday we could probably easily have got players in now who are deemed by the club to be of a lower quality than those we are after.
The players we will sign will presumably be for 2 to 3 years. So waiting a few extra weeks for the right players appears to be the current strategy.
Whether this is successful or not will depend on the quality of player we end up signing.
I dont believe much from our leadership any more unfortunately as they have somewhat of a track record for talking B*****s. Did we really match a championship club for wages? Really? So you are saying Robinson's comments are outright lies?
I'd have been more comfortable if we'd have signed 2, lesser quality backup options in centre back and striker, whilst we continue to hunt for our top targets which could go down to deadline day.
You all seem to know Guthrie and Great weren't good enough. That the top striker in the Scottish lower leagues would be a risky signing. That’s not really people on here’s job is it? To have an encyclopaedic knowledge of lower league professional footballers, that’s the job of managers, scouts etc.
I'm not sure he'd have been an improvement on Mousinho. I didn't want to sign him, but the longer the clock ticks it would have been nice to have a backup like him there after all!Which makes the non-signing of Jon Guthrie a little bit mystifying.
