So signing Camden for a large fee and keep him on the bench to push long on is getting mooted, how about addressing the teams real issues rather than wasting money
No. People are saying we might look at signing a known and proven really,
really good player who helped us to second in the league last season if they’re available and a deal could be done, and if it just so
happens that the person currently playing that position keeps performing brilliantly, and Cadden therefore couldn’t get in, that’s just a positive by-product of depth and competition. Not a single person has gone, “Let’s spend loads of wonga on a player and definitely park them on the bench. The last thing we want them to do is play football!”
We’ve got one proper right back now that it’s been established Clare can’t play there without being a bit of a liability - and nor can Hanson before anybody bloody starts that again. Forde might ‘do a job’ for a game or two, but Long is one muscle injury away from causing us an issue. He might also need to play centre back from time to time on top of it all, because if Mousinho can’t do it anymore then we only have two of those. This season especially, where there will still be more postponements to come in the next 6-8 weeks and which means the final 2/3 months is going to be utterly relentless, we need a decent squad. Depth is a good thing. Competition is a good thing. It always is, but
especially this season. What do people want instead? Purposefully untested players who are brought in on the cheap, with no chance of playing? A squad with basically no depth at the back? What good does that do for anybody? Don’t we want the best we can have going into the second half of the season?
Christ alive - I feel like Delia Smith storming onto the pitch with a microphone. When
I’m the one banging the drum for optimism and belief, other people really need to take a look at themselves.
“Where are you?!”
