National News Sir Keir Starmer

As my youngest said yesterday 'daddy, what's the point of guidance if people don't follow it?'.

Out of the mouth of babies eh. . If only @Essexyellows could understand this.

Can I ask if you have stopped attending Oxford games on the basis that very little mask wearing is going on?

You haven't seen my posts on the match day threads asking people to follow the clubs request to wear masks in the concorce?

I go to games. I've stopped socialising before games, wear a mask as I briskly walk through the concorce and take it off once out in the open.

So, on the basis that you are fully aware that guidance isn’t being followed, and in your view that is putting you and your family at significantly greater risk, you are still prepared to watch a game of football?

Doesn’t that make you just as a much a part of the problem? As in, guidance isn’t being followed but B*****s to it, I’m getting on with my life anyway?

And how's that? It's been known for a long time* contagion is SIGNIFICANTLY less likely in outdoor spaces.

*the predicted spike in cases following people crowding the beaches in 2020 didn't materialise.

Er.. your various references to no masks on concourses?

And you think sitting in close proximity to fellow fans for 2 hours is risk free? Have you forgotten that previously ground capacity was significantly restricted to provide space?

I never get within 3 metres of anyone on the concorce as I whizz through. 😷

Double jabbed and outside. It's as risk free as you are going to get if you are not going to stay at home permanently. And anyway, back to the original point, it's far far less risky than being indoors in a classroom all day with minimal ventilation and no masks.

I'm not hearing of any cases of transmission on the terraces but plenty of examples of transmission in schools. It's always best if you deal in facts.

That is the fault of the "people" for getting it wrong as I experienced today.

Took Mrs EYMk2`s car for a replacement parcel shelf (warranty job), I`m sat in the showroom wearing a mask.
There were probably 20+ folk milling about, staff, customers, deliveries etc. NOBODY except me was wearing a mask and NOBODY except me used the many hand sanitisers dotted around.

Now I`m fully jabbed, booster on Friday and pretty aware of risk & consequence - I don`t need legislation and understand the guidance but it appears the rest of thick fudgers out there think it has "gone away".

Schools - open the feckin windows and put a jumper on. Not rocket science really. If the child is vulnerable then wear a mask when needed.

Its not complicated..... 🤷‍♀️

Your example demonstrates that relying on common sense/wishy washy guidance isn't really working. But you are right it isn't complicated.

All very interesting in sure but you haven't answered the question.

That is most definitely not a fact.

3 metres, my a**e 🤣

Suggest you read this and calm down a little then.

I doubt they're are more than fifteen people on the concorce when I walk through at 2:20 (nothing else to do) ☹️Easy to avoid them.

Yes I know.

Are you going to tell her parents to calm down a little?

Yes, I have previously read that article. Terrible.

If you truly believe this is ”the norm” and was not a tragic case that can very sadly happen, why on earth are you still sending your children to school?

Why are you going to football?

Why are you even leaving your home?

Why can't you have a balanced, reasonable debate? I say why can't schools maintain and build on the mitigating actions in place in the summer and you say if I think that I should never leave the house? 🤷‍♂️

Greta doesn't think you need a parcel shelf.

I've marked you down a point on my green-compliance list.

Well said. If you have need of a 'parcel shelf', it's purely for carrying stuff you don't need from distances you shouldn't be buying it from.

#BuyLocal.

Balanced? Have you actually read your last 1000 odd posts ?

That article provided a balanced view on risk yet your response linking to a tragic story, was not.

So I take it from that that you can't explain why when I say, why can't schools maintain and build on the mitigating actions in place in the summer, you say if I think that I should never leave the house?

All very interesting in sure but you haven't answered the question.

The point of guidance is you credit the population with having the IQ to do it and for it to become a habit.

Hands - Face - Space........................ Jesus, Mary and the wee donkey even the referenced "small child" could manage that!

There is little point in legislation because you would be expecting the very same thick fudgers to enforce it.

I was genuinely amazed we are still getting 30k+ cases a day but having ventured out it's easy to see why.

It's either stupidity or selfishness. 🤷‍♀️
