International News Russian War With Ukraine

If Russia decides to invade what was considered to be Russia before Ukrainian independence, the West will not step in.
If however, Russia were to move Beyond the Ukrainian borders, then It would be a whole different scenario. A terrifying one at that.

Russia also seems to be cosying up to China in what could be seen as a loose alliance. This is a worrying development for a world where there seem to be so many flash points.
I wonder, if Ukraine was annexed by Russia, would the Chinese consider doing similar in the South China Sea, where it is flexing it’s considerable military muscle? Taiwan may well be next!!
Russia would certainly support their actions whatever they were.

The west can hardly take the moral high ground on these matters though, we have intervened and invaded our way through several countries in the pursuit of ‘world peace’ and look where that has got us? These campaigns have been nothing but bloody, costly and ultimately fruitless.

This is a bit like a Tom Clancy novel which has morphed in to real time, hopefully some form of common sense will prevail.
the recent Royal navy series on channel 5 shows that the current Russian philosophy appears to aggressive .

It’s a weird alliance between China and Russia, as China is moving people up into Far East Russian land and settling that, no way Russia can protect its entire borders as they are so huge, maybe it will do a deal with China to cede some land to the east for support in gaining more in the west (in what is pretty much a more traditional Russian area, Kiev was a big part of the early Russian empire) or this is just a temporary deal with China as it seeks to try the impossible and shore up the North European plain part of its borders, an area which has been causing wars for hundreds of years as it’s not got any real natural defences other than its sheer size.

None of this is particularly new, nor will it go away in the future, it’s just a question of where a few lines are drawn on the maps and how many people die over those lines, they will shift about a bit before most of us are gone though.

Unless Putin threatens a country which is actually part of NATO, there will be more bluster than bullets flying from Western powers.

we have a world-beating blusterer as our PM currently

If Ukraine simply say "We don`t want to join NATO" it`ll all be over - for now.

Unfortunately, Ukraine is huge and resource-rich so Vlad wants the leverage.

Would that not undermine their position to do so as a sovereign state in the future?

The trouble is if they say that they don’t want to be part of nato then they lose the nearest thing to protection from the Russians. Russia will walk in the west will say how terrible and wring their hands for a few months and everything will die back down. The west don’t want a war with Russia, and they don’t care too much about Ukraine. They don’t want the Russians to enter any of the other NATO countries because then they will have to fight, and that would be world war and not even the Russians and the Chinese want that.

They're not far-right, they're just aimless and stupid.
Hmmm, attempting to prorogue parliament, threatening to ignore the terms of internationally negotiated agreements, instating law to limit our rights to protest, frequently attempting to drive policy without first presenting to parliament, attempting to limit the scope of judicial reviews through the courts, accepting huge amounts of Russian money - 'aimless and stupid', I don't think so. Certainly not the actions of a liberal or centre-right party.
