Was it me but thevpitch seemed further away from the Mail end and narrower.

Yes and why

Must admit I didn't notice but vaguely recall someone saying the pitch was being made smaller.

I think it's because they painted the lines in a different place this season.

But I'm not ITK.

It’s been made it narrower to give those pesky left wingers less space whilst trying to get past our rightback. Worked a treat for the first 30 minutes on Saturday.😉

From FA Law 1:
3. Dimensions

The touchline must be longer than the goal-line.

  • Length (touchline):
    minimum 90m (100yds)
    maximum 120m (130yds)
  • Length (goal-line):
    minimum 45m (50yds)
    maximum 90m (100yds)

Blimey. So two pitches can have areas differing by almost a factor of 3!
I played on a stupidly short pitch not long ago where the centre circle was only 5 or so metres from the top of the D. It made for a crap game of football.

That can’t be right for any pro or semi-pro club pitches? Far too much variation.

The quote was from the IFAB guidance. The caveat is, “Competitions may determine the length of the goal-line and touchline within the above dimensions.” This would allow league to specify their own min/max dimensions
