Without Sacking Des, how would you have us play that would bring about an upturn of form and style????

Fwiw, I would have the whole squad in and read them the fuckin riot act.
Promotion is (amazingly) still staring us right smack in the face. It’s still achievable, if they really want it.
We’ve been pretty much flatlining since just before Manning left and it cannot continue any longer.
Time to start throwing caution to the wind.

We need goals and plenty of them.
Enough of the tippy tappy stuff, get the ball forward and support each other by raining in the shots and crosses. We need bodies in the box and we need to gamble big time to overwhelm the opposition.
Better we go out swinging than tap dancing our way to oblivion.
Two up front is a must. I don’t care who, just need more of us committing forward to lend a hand. If in doubt, let’s get it up the field, not keep conceding territory to the opposition.
No more sitting on narrow leads, attack.
Attack. Fuckin’ Attack.
Fans will love it.
Anything is better than seeing us go through the motions in a snooze fest of negativity.
Well that’s my B*****s on it. Feel free to rubbish it/me, whatever.

First and foremost, we need to fix the midfield. First couple of months, we were dominant in the centre of the pitch. Now we lose the battle every frickin' game to the point where we pick up no possession in there, can't stop any opposition from walking through us and can't pass our way through it at all - so have to resort to lumping it forward to a set of forwards that are (Goodwin excepted) not strong in the air.

McGuane & RR - both so good in August/September - are both now so woefully out of form that they need to take a seat for a while.

Everything I heard about Jay Matete before he arrived was that he was an all-energy type of player; bit of a psycho who's second touch was often a tackle, but someone who would get you moving forwards. We haven't seen that player at all. We've seen someone who's barely getting out of the defensive third, barely making a tackle and struggling to play a simple 10 yard pass.
Either Plymouth and Sunderland fans are all wrong, or he's just being asked to do completely the wrong things. We need to unshackle him, and send him out there fired up to get ****ing stuck in. If he doesn't get booked, he's not trying hard enough. It may not work, he may be too tentative coming back from injury, but we've got to at least try to get him playing to his strengths and get some real physical presence in the centre alongside Cam. It's what we were begging for in January.....now we've got it, but we're using it wrong.

Then I'd be inclined to play Bodin at the #10. He's erratic, but so good at finding pockets of space that defenders at this level have trouble with him even though he lacks pace. So stick him in there in front of Matete and Cam, and try and actually build a proper midfield presence. And if he can't go, try Tyler in there instead. Do that, and we won't be desperately relying on 50 yard cross-field balls to Greg Leigh every time to actually get us going forwards.

Concentrate on the basics.

Pass and move.

Make sure that passes go to the intended recipient.

Be aware of where your colleagues are, and pass to a teammate in space, or to space where a teammate can run.

Try to pass forward.

Support each other.

Have belief.

I still believe we are a good team, but we are putting pressure on ourselves by stupid stupid misplaced passes.

Defenders need less possession, attacking players need more possession further up the pitch.

We don't need all the players back when defending set pieces.

Opposition teams manage to bring the ball forward through the midfield we back off and leave space in behind.

We need to start doing this to the opposition, thats attacking football.

I’d be finding starting roles for Smyth, Dale, Burey, Bodin and Goodwin.

Rodrigues needs a rest.

I think the environment is wrong. I don’t think 4321, 433 or whatever is the key to getting us playing.

The first thing I would do as a strong modern leader is to hold an open and honest discussion with the squad involving the coaching team too. Perhaps a few nights away. I would look to get everyone involved in order to get to the crux of the issue. I would have to be prepared that I myself am part of the problem and would listen carefully to the players and their suggestions. My ego would be put away. They may have tactical insights and other ideas, but I’m quite sure that right now I don’t have the dressing room. My priorities would be to get those players running and battling in a yellow shirt. There is no way we are going from where we are now to a fluid cohesive unit over night.

Training would be basic, sharp and inclusive. Fitness circuits, plyometric drills, a bit of fun. Lots of small pitch work with full size goals to try and get confidence going and the net bulging.
I would ask the sports science bods to take another look at individual diet plans and gym routines.

I would look in to sleep specialists and also more sports psychotherapist sessions.

And only when we are fighting and running for each other, and ready to win those 2nd balls would I return to my tactical master plan, with a possible integration of some bright ideas by the squad and staff.

Nobody plays two up front anymore, you get overrun in midfield.
Rubbish!!
Barnsley, Bolton 3-1-4-2
Blackpool, Charlton 3-5-2
Bristol Rovers, Wycombe 4-4-2
Carlisle 4-1-3-2
Burton 5-3-2
That's just league one
In the Premier,
Aston Villa, Burnley, Everton,
Sheffield United, Brentford all play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.

I totally agree but it will mean Des will have to change his philosophy of playing 2 out and out wingers. Manning dominated midfield by having Bodin or Goodrham playing narrow. He wanted to control midfield to create space out wide. We also had an organised press which has now basically stopped. Every player had very specific roles, we attack with purpose. If you don't control the game you can only play as a counter attacking team.
