Thanks, this thread is up to date as far as I know.
Thanks to whichever mod has been helping keep it up to date.
Edit: Ramon Diaz is now manager of Corinthians after his spell in Saudi is over, can we get some of their youngsters please Ramon!
We really have had some bizarre managerial appointments since moving to the Kassam.
As an observation, it's arguably been quite a while since we've had one of the more established middle-of-the-road managers working his way round to us on the EFL managerial circuit (al la Nigel Adkins, Steve Evans, Phil Brown, Darrell Clarke, Paul Cook, etc). Last one to fit that description was probably Brian Talbot (if we consider Jim Smith's 2nd stint to be more of a "one last hurrah" than an actual career move).
Excluding any interims, in reverse order we've had:
Buckingham - Young. Managed abroad and youth international level. 1st UK club. Hometown boy who played for our youth side and got us promoted as manager. All hail!
Manning - Young. Managed at U23 level and abroad. 2nd UK club. Quick to jump for a career move, so will likely become a staple of the EFL merry-go-round in years to come.
Robinson - Relatively young, only his 3rd club. Near misses, at both ends of the table. Let's call it "exciting yet naïve" and leave it at that.
Clotet - Relatively young. Managed at youth and B level abroad. Had been assistant at Swansea, but we were his 1st UK club as a manager. Brought in some weird and wonderful foreign players, some good, some equally as useless as he was.
Appleton - Relatively young. Had only managed 3 clubs (+1 as caretaker) before us, but none of those lasting more than a season. Won us promotion despite not knowing who his number 1 was. Bench-presses houses.
Waddock - Older, and had been around the leagues for a while, but bless the guy he only got the 8 games (of which he lost 7). Also, looked the spitting image of my then-girlfriend's Dad, whom I accidentally called "Mr Waddock" one time.
Wilder - Relatively young. Only his 3rd club, though as a player he had been around the leagues. Got us promoted, but left on a sour note. Arguably gone on to bigger and better things, though we will be in the same league as him this season!
Smith - 66 when he joined for his 2nd stint. Managed over 1,000 matches over 9 clubs by this point. Iconic, beloved, Bald Eagle. Last time we had an established career manager.
Patterson - Player promoted to caretaker, promoted to manager. 1st ever managerial position. Never really stood a chance.
Talbot - Older. We were his 6th UK club. Last time we had a manager still actively within their EFL managerial circuit. Seemed to take a regular bunch of players with him from club to club, including his own daughter's fella.
Diáz - 1st (and presumably last) UK club. Had managed one of Argentina's biggest clubs over 7 years before joining us. Gone on to manage almost as many sides abroad as Jefferson Louis has played for in the English lower leagues.
Rix - Only his 2nd managerial appointment (barring a caretaker stint at Chelsea). The less said about him, the better, as I do not want to get in trouble for stating my utter disgust at his criminal record.
Atkins - Established EFL career manager. We were his 7th club. Should have been promoted really. Suspended for discussing a move away from the club, but to what degree soiled relations with our slum landlord lead him to it, we'll never truly know.
Wright - Relatively young. Local boy, and former player. Only his 2nd club in management. Took charge of us at a very tough time, straight after a relegation and a move to the breeze block. Resigned after only a few months, after getting in trouble for making certain comments towards a referee.
My move away from Oxford coincided with our move to the Kassam, so most of following of the side under the aforementioned managers has been as an exile. However, thanks to the work of the gang at RadOx, plus countless obsessed fans posting on online forums (from TiU til present), it's been entertaining following the stories of these various managers as they walk in and out the door. The good, the bad, and the utterly bizarre!
