International News Covid-19 .....

More than 97% of the funding for the OAZ virus came from UK government departments, British and American scientific institutes, the European commission and charities including the Wellcome Trust. Grauniad.

Only fair AZ and Ox University should keep the profits.
In defence of Oxford, as a university it is expected to maintain constant high standard of research capability across a multitude of areas ready for the day when they are needed, and it is impossible for them to recoup costs for the huge amount of work that doesn’t yield financial benefit. Funding a research university sector is like funding a peacetime army. (Except a lot cheaper). You can hope to save money by relying on someone else’s well-funded army...
I have less sympathy for AZ because they can pick and choose their business without fault and they then scrounge profits and hand them to my superannuation fund.

Be fair to the Uni, the provost was on the local news last night saying they couldn't actually afford to take old Rhodes down.

Might get in contact and say I know some people who'll do it for free.

Elf & Safety, listed building consent, specialist contractors, removal, repair, conservation, storage etc............................ vs ...................a few woke flakes being offended by an inanimate object.

It's not worth it, the provost was right.

Might be a but agricultural for the metrolopis but I've become quite handy with a mattock over the past months.

And the detail of those assets will include very specific restrictions on whether they can be liquidated (usually not) and on what their generated income can be spent on. If they acrue 5% (generous at the moment), $1.2bn would generate <$60M p.a. The operating turnover of OU would be in the order of billions. Right now because of covid restrictions on international students, they will be operating with a deficit, which if they are lucky will be less than the <$60M they obtain in restricted income from their endowment.
I don't know enough about the college system to be able to comment on that.

My post was as much as a comment about the acting prime minister's remarks regarding Britain's Triumph In Being Best AGAIN!! That "Greed is good!!" and only UK BUSINESS could have DELIVERED THIS CLASS-LEADING TRIUMPH which BORIS JOHNSON (peace be upon him) personally inspired, oversaw and CLAIMS!!

Just hope it can cope with the Indian variant he's let SWARM ACROSS OUR BORDERS!!

Varies between the colleges, some of the newer ones are not that wealthy but others like St Johns are absolutely minted, owns so much that they have been known to forget about some of it apparently.

Stick a paper bag over his head , job sorted , what’s next on the list, martyers memorial, offends non religious people , various war memorials, even the kassam ox, offends somebody I suppose

What a lovely problem to have.

Not sure I understand. It's like suggesting that someone who owns a house worth $100K should not need to be paid to work because with $100K surely they've got plenty of money to look after them self. Owning the house is "a lovely problem to have" in that circumstance?

My point was there are many many businesses/legal entities who would LOVE to be in OU's position with OU's financial 'problems'. All things are relative.

Not good that the Govt is trying to delay or withhold data. For once I agree with Dominic Cummings, transparency is needed where this data is concerned, not withheld or delayed by Govt to justify their policies politically. If there is a problem, to do with Covid, the Govt need to deal with it and be transparent about it.

Further, yesterday's good news story may not be so good news based on the data but it is not clear yet. I can only assume the Indian variant is transmitting in larger numbers through schoolkids otherwise I don't get the logic of the Govt pressuring the PHE to withhold data (assuming that is actually the case).

So the tweet was asking about data on a Thursday evening that was allegedly "dumped" (or published) on a Saturday?
They should think themselves lucky it wasn`t held until Monday.

The data was supposed to be released on Thursday and the school data still hasn't been released. Likewise on the face of it the data doesn't quite justify the "good news" article that got released via a leak either so is misleading. Also, dumping it on a Saturday without telling anybody which they normally do iirc is a s**t tactic but it contradicts or certainly undermines the leaked "good news" story so no they weren't lucky. It is a typical of this Govt and the way it acts though so not surprising.
