I'd take issue slightly with your definition of capitalism.

Socialist, Communist and Marxist (and every other "ist" you care to think of) ALSO produce goods/deliver services. Capitalism does it with the express intent of making profit from it with the express intent of keeping the gains for the producer, rather than redistribution for everyones benefit.

No demand = no profit to retain.

Currently my bank account looks very healthy because the dripping tap of non-essential spending has been turned off.
Sadly the one size fits all of socialism doesn`t work either because everyone ends up poorer...except those in charge.
Better to accept the consumer controls capitalism and if we stop spending ......
Or we need a middle ground if we are to learn anything from the current situation.

Unfortunately there happens to be something called
COVID-19 our and about at the moment that has hit the economy bad ( it might have been worse if Boris hadn’t asked Rishi to dip in the jar to help ) it is inevitable that some companies are going to suffer and this global thing and not just a U.K. problem.

Dyson is an a**e though.

I remember him bigging up British made/production then not that long after shifting production out of the UK. I remember him complaining about not being able to get screws etc made in the UK even though there was demand but couldn't understand why the interviewer was asking him why he hadn't taken that opportunity.

Outside essentials for living, demand is largely manufactured by those wanting to sell you stuff. It's normally called advertising.

Extreme and corrupt socialism and capitalism are just as bad as each other. Lurch too far in o e direction and trouble will surely follow. Stay honest, find the middle ground and get the balance right and everybody benefits.

For my money, we have lurched far to far towards the back slapping, palm greasing, nepotistic, self first form of capitalism and I see nothing of those leading the richest nations on earth to suggest otherwise.

There is enough evidence of extreme poverty, oppression and environmental degradation to support that.

It is destructive and EVERYONE will suffer in the long term... including all our descendants...but I guess that's their problem isn't it[emoji6]

What's the difference between consumerism and capitalism?

Asking for a friend...
Demand and a means of supply (that in this instances makes a very few people very rich and large swathes incredibly poor).

Tbf a lot of entrepreneurs owning profitable companies are arses and treat their employees with such utter contempt.

There are to many that are twats to their work force, the problem isn’t the governments if a company sets up its buisness in this country then after a while it’s cheaper in another country or they toodle pip, there is nothing the government can do. And no government can keep giving tax incentives to stay in the country its bad enough now with the tax breaks that are given to companies which could be use for more better.

Maybe if they encouraged the type of thinking that places a moral obligation on people to give back to the very communities that have made them so stinking rich in the first place, then not only would it set a great example to others who aspire to be similarly successful, it would also show that capitalism and success can also be compassionate and responsible. Dyson and his ilk show very little of that I am afraid and yet he is held up as a shining example of what success looks like in Tory, independent Britain....I'd go as far as to say actively encouraged.

Make your money...exploit the workforce...offshore the lot (production and profits) when costs get too high and f**k those who got you there. And right-leaning Governments are all too happy sit by and watch it happen (while the value of their own investments increases no doubt ;) ;)).

I wonder what Corbyn would have done if he had won the election.

I wonder what Hitler would have done if he’d won the war, or what would have England done if Lampards goal vs Germany had been given, or what would have happened if Prince Andrew hadn’t been at Pizza Express.

It doesn’t really matter does it, what matters is now and the course we are set on by those steering HMS Britannia.

At the moment (in my opinion) were on course to hitting one of the rapidly melting icebergs and there’s a lot of people still happy to sit there and watch someone tinkle the ivories as the engine rooms flood.

He would have absolutely ruined the country.

I wouldn’t have wanted corbyn in power any more than Johnson. As we saw at the last election and have seen in British politics for some time there’s been a vacuum of anyone worth voting for in the main.

Because the EU interventions in farming are always a great "success". This article is from 2018 however it remains valid & current.

The issue is the consumer on a race to the bottom for price.
I can go to a local shop and buy 2 x 2 litres of milk for £2. £1 a bottle, 50p a litre retail.
My local dairy farmers get paid 27p per litre.
Between the farm and the processor everyone has to get their profit, that is reality.
If that milk was 50p a bottle more it wouldn`t make much difference to me but a massive difference to the supply chain.
Unfortunately contracts and reduced competition means an increase rarely reaches the farm.

Going well then................ Tesco burger anyone?

Let’s not start quoting this stuff (it happens here too)... I’ll tell you some stories that will put you off your cereal! ?

Unfortunately just like all walks of life there’s plenty of people looking to make cash one way or the other, to our detriment sometimes.

30 years in the retail & catering meat trade I am very cautious what I buy and where from!! ??

Oh for gods sake, how many more times.

YOU DON'T KNOW. I DON'T KNOW. Unless they are the oracle at Delphi - NOBODY BLOODY KNOWS.

You cannot excuse the actions of the current lot by inferring someone else might have been worse. Because you do not know.
Maybe not but I would love to know if that LOT were in your reaction to their it ineptness.
