Sorting old programmes as you do.

So we played Spurs in the "Inaugural Final of the Oxfordshire Bill Halsey Memorial Cup", .

Spurs had Ramon Vega, David Ginola, Jason Dozell amongst others.

Gave rise to a couple of questions......... who won? Where is the Trophy? Was it ever played for again?

It was played shortly after the KassStad opened, as Mrs O attended her one and (so far) only Oxford game.

We played Coventry and typically, it finished 0-0. We did get a lengthy penalty shootout though (which Coventry won).

EDIT: After a quick Google, it seems the BHMC was originally known as the Oxfordshire Benevolent Cup and was renamed in1997.
The cup itself was "the largest trophy ever made at any level of English football, standing nearly three feet high" according to this Oxford Mail report of the 1952 winners https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/9715553.trophies-glitter-great-season/

and it maybe that Coventry still have the pot as the 2004 contest witnessed by the missus was seemingly the last time it was played.

Ah Christophe Remy. Anyone else remember the website he did whilst playing for us? Always an interesting read, although it could be as difficult to decipher as a Bazzer post at times...
Always answered e-mails from fans did Christophe...the thinking man's footballer.
