It sounds to me like a win over Peterborough on Saturday is needed psychologically as much as it is in reality. I haven’t seen much of them this season but listening to some, maybe better informed posters, it sounds like we’d have no chance against them. There’s a very real chance we’d meet them somewhere in the play offs so a win Saturday would be a real boost for the points, obviously, but also the inevitable meeting in the play offs - should we get there.

They lost at home to Carlisle two weeks ago!

They’re a good side, particularly in attack, but they are clearly beatable and we should have a big advantage in terms of fatigue.

It’s not season over if we lose Saturday, but it’s a great opportunity for Des to pick up his biggest win and make a statement…..

They scored loads. We've scored loads recently.

It's got 0-0 written all over it

They’ve always scored loads, even going back to the days of Mackail- Smith, McLean, Boyd etc. That’s probably why they always seem a difficult opponent on paper but, as others have said, they’ve had some humbling defeats this season too. Also not forgetting one of footballs greatest implosions when they got beat by Wednesday in last seasons play off - that’s sure to be on their mind this time around as well.

Their defence is certainly their weak spot. Always has been.

Going forward they’re the best attacking side in the league.

Mason Clark & Poku are the best two wide players in the league. We have to keep them quiet.

True re the defence and that’s always been a trait of theirs too - those Sheffield Wednesday games in the play off are the Fry/Ferguson era in a nutshell!

Column 2 was not as enjoyable to fill...

Squeaky-bum-time part of the season gets me looking at goal differences, of course. Those 4-0s have helped! Currently our +18 compared to Stevenage's 11+ makes out 3-point lead essentially a 4-point lead over them, though Blackpool are much closer on our heels with +16.
In these days of digital data I do love some handwritten work on a bit of paper. And I enjoyed your visual summary - a fine piece of work sir! 👏🏼

I would be delighted with a draw in all honesty. I think even that would be a really encouraging result going into Lincoln.

Also, the sceptic in me says Peterborough might see us as the weakest team vying for that 6th spot and in that respect prefer to see us as potential opponents in any future play off game. That being the case, maybe they might just take their foot off the gas.

But for me, Lincoln is the game that I think will define our season. Lose it and I would feel that our chances have slipped away.

Really looking forward to the run in.

Draw would be a good result. High scoring draw would show we can go toe to toe with the free-scorers in the playoffs. Low scoring draw would show we can keep one of the best free scoring teams in the division under control.

What is essential is that we're disciplined in our shape, especially when getting back into that tight shape quickly when transitioning from attack to defence. We just can't allow them space to exploit on the ball in the final third.

Under Buckingham we have IMO looked better when we are playing on the front foot. It *feels* as if the number of games that we have failed to win after taking the lead and becoming more defensive has been a feature of the season (although I don't have any stats to back that up!) - and I don't think that is an approach we can take against Peterborough, who themselves are better in attack than defence. We need to be playing attacking football for as much of the game as we can.

Absolutely agree with that. Attack is definitely the best form of defence for us in this game. But when we do give the ball away (and we will), we'd better make sure we're razor sharp in getting back into a disciplined defensive shape quickly. Especially given how effective Pboro are in attack. Whilst we are very good going forward, I have also been impressed with the defensive workrate of Murphy and Dale in particular - they are always up for the fight it seems.

We’ve been excellent on the counter-attack recently and there’s no doubt Posh will commit people forward. The concern is Mason-Clark vs Sam Long, but Long did ok at theirs last season.

The hope is that they struggle find space in our half to play with our full backs sitting deep, and that Murphy, Harris and Dale can create chances on the break.

I was surprised they didn’t switch their team up more last night, so hopefully that helps us too.

Whisper it quietly, but I've been mostly pretty impressed with the form Long has found in the last few games. He's much better with Dale in front of him, and Elliott Moore is much better with Long beside him.
